Adrian Peterson had a crazy serious workout plan in high school. We just see the end result, but those guys made themselves into what they are. Sports is a terrible career. The racial disparity is more about options / choices than eugenics. It really rubs me the wrong way when I hear commentators say, "Said player is so naturally gifted". Like that player woke up one morning and had all this power, explosion, speed, and great hand eye coordination. It just negates all the hard work that player did to achieve success at the college or NFL level. It's such an underhanded racial microaggression. Are you telling me hoards of black children work out like crazy during their youth because they want to be football (or basketball) players, while the more wealthy white kids with access to the best trainers and facilities in their towns don't put in the work? I know one thing I can tell you. When I was in 8th grade, one of my black friends was already bigger, stronger, and faster than 99% of adult men. We were 13 or 14 years old and he looked like a poster child for an EAS magazine cover when he took his shirt off. The elite players are the cream of the crop when it comes to being gifted. That doesn't mean they also don't work hard. I think you are just letting it rub yourself the wrong way. Obviously it doesn't effect you; therefore you can easily negate it. Now that's privilege! I don't think dropping from 6 minority coaches to 4 means a dame thing as the percentages are not that far off when you factor in demographics. I think he is responding to the dismissive way many posters are responding to the Rooney rule on a conceptual level, along with the casual racism inherent in certain comments--which do not reflect, I think, actual racist intent but rather have racist implications--at least rhetorically--which are appear really overt. I don't think any minority is asking for a handout. They just want a fair opportunity. There are quality minorities sitting on the market right. I am stunned that Ray Horton did not get hired. Also Mike Tomlin was hired because he was brought to satisfy the Rooney rule. The Rooneys gave him a fair shot and he blew them away by seizing his opportunity. They surprise the world by hiring Tomlin and two SB visits, one championship later nobody is regretting the decision to bring him. WRONG. Tomlin was not brought in to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
