And we just got a very promising 4 star recruit, WR Ryan Jenkins to de-commit from Clemson to commit to UT. volntitan Posted January 7, 2013 Report Share Posted January 7, 2013 Biggest thing about Jenkins is he is a legacy. Amazes me how many of these Dooley's staff ignored or treated poorly. Including the kid who was named Freshman All American punter at UK. Not saying he would have come to UT, but he is a good kid and a great kicker that UT could use. I don't follow recruiting at all. Is this a bad class for UT? The reactionary mouth breathers on VN faaaaar outweigh the voices of reason....I'll stay away from VN for a few days for that reason. The class was....."ok." We closed on Josh Dobbs, which is a dual-threat QB with a very good head on his shoulders. He should fit BJ's offense well. Signing Malik Brown & Jaylen Miller was nice but we missed on basically all of the big-time recruits we targeted--Von Bell was the biggest surprise. Urban Meyer strikes again. Fuck him. Missed out on: Von Bell Carl Lawson Jonathan Ford Derrick Green Davin Bellamy T. Boyd (WR that signed with Pitt, can't remember 1st name) ...and a slew of others. Overall, if you payed attention to recruiting (I'm a recruiting junkie) the job that Jones did in simply getting UT back in the mix with guys like Von Bell, Ford, & Bellamy has to be encouraging but overcoming the last 5-6 year of SUCK is too much to overcome for a coach with 2 months to recruit. Simply put...we have to fucking win but the schedule in '13 is anything but condusive to a winning record--especially for an average to below average team like UT. The one thing that works in our favor is 2014's class is ABSOLUTELY LOADED with UT legacies that are just looking for a reason to commit. Guys like Todd Kelly, Jr., the Berry Twins (Eric Berry's younger twin brothers), Bill Bates' son, and a BUNCH of other guys that are not only tied to the university but are HIGHLY touted players. Plus...the in-state talent next year is....SICK. If Butch Jones can win just ONE game he's not supposed to, it would help. I'd like to say I'm optimistic about the future but Dooley basically disembowled every bit of confidence I have in any sort of turn around over the next few years. Jones is doing all the things off the field to rally support but it sure as hell would've been nice to add a guy like Von Bell or Carl Lawson to this class to at least add some real talent to the team. UT is SERIOUSLY lacking decent talent and depth at RB, LB, DL, & DB and has a lot of work to do on the OL after next season. If 2014's class blows, we might as well get used to be a below average team b/c with the way Bama, UF, LSU, & now fucking VU are recruiting, the SEC is only getting better. I should probably have written a disclaimer before I posted this for UT fans to put away any razors or sharp, metallic objects before reading....reality sucks right now for UT. Greener pastures in Florida + unproven coaches at our program. I think Butch will do a good job here, but he'll need a season at least to show what he brings. In one week, he got a 3 star OL, 4 Star WR and the big gets, Todd Kelly, Jr, a 4 star DB and today Jalen Hurd, 5 star RB and one of the top players in the country.
