Jamalisms
#NFLRewind Ok, count me among the people truly excited about the "All-22" film. Count me among the people who think the telestrator function is cool and will be fun to use. Count me among the people who find value in this product because it supplements my ability to consume the greater NFL product. Count me among those who bought it right after it became available, based on the claims made about its features. Count me among those who are flat out pissed that the advertisements claim access to every NFL game, but then restrict access to and require extra money to view pre-season games - not live, but even replays. Count me among those curious as to when the tablet apps will be available. It's only a few weeks away from the season, and I've had access to historic games since I paid for it so it isn't like these apps wouldn't be useful - Why is this functionality not yet up and running on tablets yet? Hell, count me among those who wonder which specific tablets will even be supported. Kindle Fire was my true concern. This entire product is still smoke and mirrors and if I weren't such a god-forsaken NFL junkie, this kind of poor service and as-yet unfinished and unpolished product would be completely and utterly unacceptable. I don't even know what I've paid for, and I paid weeks ago. I decided to try the online chat with NFL.com today to get some answers. After a longer than average wait for these types of online customer service programs, and numerous promptings that " Your request is important to us. Please wait, an operator will be with you shortly." ... someone finally connected with me. Count me among the unimpressed: You are now chatting with Julio B. - NFL Game Rewind 15:22Jamal Black: Hey Julio 15:22Julio B.: Greetings! 15:22Julio B.: Currently this will not work on Kindle Fire but it may in the future 15:23Julio B.: The android app to be released will only support android tablets 10"+ 15:23Jamal Black: Is there a list of tablets it does work on? 15:24Jamal Black: So, iPads and androids 10"+? 15:24Julio B.: Any android tablet bigger than 10", the app will work on once it is released 15:24Julio B.: correct 15:24Jamal Black: Will the app be released before week 1? 15:24Julio B.: yes but we do not have an exact date 15:24Jamal Black: Is the iPad app already available? 15:25Julio B.: not for game rewind 15:25Julio B.: they will be released at the same time 15:25Jamal Black: Last question (I think)... will the telestrator function work on laptops? 15:25Julio B.: no only on tablets 15:26Jamal Black: That's unfortunate. 15:26Jamal Black: haha 15:26Julio B.: My apologies! Anything else I can assist with? 15:26Jamal Black: Well, then my next question is - how will that function work when shared? Is there a limit on length of video, will viewers just be redirected to nfl.com for that specific video? 15:27Julio B.: We do not have those details yet. 15:28Jamal Black: Really? Is there an ETA on that decision? 15:28Julio B.: Those details will be known when the app is released. 15:29Jamal Black: But it is certain that videos will be shareable, correct? 15:29Jamal Black: I believe that is in the description online. 15:30Julio B.: Yes that is correct 15:31Jamal Black: Well, I suppose we'll all just wait to see what we paid for. crazy how little they know. 15:31Jamal Black: Thatnks Julio. 15:32Julio B.: Thanks, have a nice day! For those playing at home: Telestrator will only be available on tablets. Why? Who knows. The app required will only be on iPads and Android tablets 10"+. Why? Who knows. They aren't sure when the apps will be out. Why? Who knows... but you should be worried about that. They aren't sure in what manner this much marketed telestrator will even work when you try to share it with others. Why? Who knows... but again you should worry. Cyrus
The NFL has already released the Preseason Live app for the iPad. The tech already works so I don't expect there to be an issue for the Game Rewind app when it's released. As for the telestrator function, it's less than 5% of the value of the package to begin with and it's basically just an export image function that utilizes the touch screen for messy scribbling. This can be easily achieved by using "print screen" and any photo editing program. I realize there's a disparity between what the NFL is advertising and what consumers are getting right now but I guess I'm someone who doesn't have as high of expectations. As long as the All-22 tape is up in a timely manner I'll be satisfied (although the iPad support is nice and so far they seem on track for it). wiscotitansfan
So that's pretty much a no on a kindle fire we can assume.
Jamalisms
It is a no-no on the kindle fire and many other tablets, yes, not to mention laptops - as most will be using it. Better luck next year to anyone who didn't explicitly ask about unadvertised restrictions before they bought it. Next time maybe you'll think of all potential stupid things they could do and you'll verify those things pre-payment... but good luck getting answers timely. Telestrator is really only useful if used with videos as is done professionally, and the ease of using it in-app and sharing it (as they advertise) is rather valuable versus other ways to get a circle drawn on there. Cyrus
Does the Kindle Fire have any other streaming apps on it? I don't get the outrage over it. It's such a small slice of the market that it makes sense for development to focus on the larger market share first then expand support. Pretty much standard operating procedure for every tech company.
Jamalisms
Nah, the Fire specifically isn't the issue, that was just the specific question. Outrage over multiple and many unadvertised and unnecessary restrictions is and should be pretty normal for any product. Why would this not be functional outside of tablets? I don't even own one, but was considering a Kindle Fire. Fortunately I asked and now know, but to get what I thought I already paid for, I have to buy a bigger more expensive tablet. You apparently own a tablet, imagine trying to use Telestrator for the first time in a few weeks if you didn't have one. How upset would you be to contact support and find out that it isn't functional outside of apps on tablets? It's nonsensical and completely a blindside. I don't care what tech company you are. Misleading customers is bad business. ... and the preseason restrictions are pathetic. Believe it or not, those are games.

I don't know enough about tablets to be able to differentiate in the capability between the larger and smaller tablets although I think there's a reason that they distinguish by size since an android tablet can mean virtually anything. For the telestrator, I think it's more of a last-minute addition based on the capability and functionality built into the tablet. It's just taking advantage of the technology that's there, just like some software might take advantage of unique features of specific hardware (gaming platforms are a good example). Also, for the pre-season restrictions, it's possible that the licensing is totally different. Perhaps there's separate negotiations contractually for airing rights with television companies. If that's the case it might not be feasible for an all-in-one package. For the most part, companies like to oversell you products rather than undersell you (a' la carte). Bluth
Thanks for the post Jamal that was something I was looking into and now have better insight on it. Thats incredibly unfortunate, I was really looking foward to getting a Nexus 7 but its a 7" screen so this app will not be available. What is telstrator? Jamalisms
I'm certain it's licensing, but that's really beside the point. The advertising is the issue with me. There is nothing about drawing on a tablet touchscreen that is unique to a mouse on a laptop.

Thats incredibly unfortunate, I was really looking foward to getting a Nexus 7 but its a 7" screen so this app will not be available. What is telstrator? It's like what John Madden used (poorly). You can pause the video, circle something, draw where the play is headed or highlight a specific guy/issue on film... then hit play and voila! Instant analysis. The are allegedly going to be able to be send to others... (or posted here)... to demonstrate something from the film.

There is nothing about drawing on a tablet touchscreen that is unique to a mouse on a laptop. It does say "Replay every NFL Game" which is misleading. But the chart listing all the features is pretty clear that it's only regular season games (and postseason for Season Plus). I guess I don't have very high expectations and am generally used to reading all the fine print.
rhonderoo
So the telestrator is basically Draw Something on frozen video when it comes to how the iPad works.

Jamalisms
So the telestrator is basically Draw Something on frozen video when it comes to how the iPad works. Well, nobody knows because they apparently don't even know yet... but I assume it works like that but then the drawing stays on the video just like a normal telestrator and you can play through. When done well on TV is helps show what you are trying to show... but I 100% agree that the technology is not much at all... and absolutely is feasible on laptops, small tablets... everything.
