Just gotta expect more than 2-4 runs out of our O to get the W. Our 2 all-world pitchers spoil us. I'm really surprised Corbin didn't send Bradfield for a steal attempt last night, especially late in extra innings when the game was on the line. Corbin will also call for a suicide squeeze in situations like we had. He demands everyone in the starting lineup be an excellent bunter. His knowledge of the game makes him an amazing tactician. In the super regionals, with runners on first and second and a full count on the batter, he called for the batter to take a third strike and stay in the batter's box and pulled a double steal. The batter never lifted the bat off his shoulder but by being in the batter's box he blocked the throw to third base and we put 2 runners in scoring position with a single pitch. I thought we were in trouble after the first inning but Kumar settled down and the bats came alive. GREAT college baseball game! NC State is on an absolute roll. It's going to be a tough game. After that rough start Rocker was stellar. And sure need Leiter to light it up, those 2 are only reason we're there now. Hard part is that he's been less consistent than Rocker, so you don't know what you're going to get. Would be nice time for one of his no-hitters. Think any chance Lighter could do the Sat. And this year though their 2 aces are phenoms behind that it isn't that impressive. I mean the guys haven't done a bad job but a far cry from having a 1-2-3 weekend combo like they used to. Amazing to think about having a team with a Walker Buehler as your #4/Wed starter. My concern is that if they can push Leiter up to pitch by Saturday (assuming they can win the next 2) would he be ready to pitch in the Championship round? He would need to go Monday-Saturday-Wednesday. And he threw a lot of pitches tonight (which at least saved the bullpen). Best strategy might be to pitch Little or Reilly on Wednesday, Rocker on Friday, and then the other of Little or Reilly on Saturday (assuming they can get that far). Hope to start Leiter fresh in the championship and have Rocker ready to pitch a potential game 3. Being in the losers bracket is a killer. It means having to pitch way more innings than NCSt has to.
