There are portions of the wall that need to be funded, anyone with common sense knows this.  This is not giving a political win or taking a political loss.  5 billion is chump change the way these bastards use the national credit card.

This is DC. Everything is a political win or loss. Regardless of how badly the $5b is actually needed, Democrats can't give in without signifcant concessions. This is negotiating 101,something Democrats have been pretty bad at lately. They deserve to lose their offices if they cave on the border wall without at least getting DACA protections.

You want the wall Trump ? Well how bad do you want it?

The Dems can’t win on this issue period.  You can’t have Fox News showing people climbing a wall and yelling borderlands.  You win elections by funding and spinning the win.  Politics 202.

When Democrats start understanding politics they might win a couple of things.  Why fight 5b for a wall?  Give him 5b and show how 5b didn’t slow down illegals at all.  Show how 5b would have helped insurance.  Fuckers win the battle and lose the war.

Because Trump wants it very badly. So they should get something in return.

Agreed it looks bad for democrats with folks climbing the fence but looks worst for Trump.

He promised it and based his campaign on it and said Mexico would pay. Now that has proven to be a lie, so if he wants us to pay he's going to have to cave on something important to dems.

A wall is a lot less cost effective than fencing or electronic surveillance.

It's been proven fact that a wall doesn't stop illegals from entering the US and that MOST drugs "flooding the country" are coming right through official Ports of Entry.  A wall will do little to stop either. It's all about Trump trying to retain his base.

The so-called caravan arrived at the San Diego port of entry.  A wall accomplishes nothing to stop people who are seeking asylum at a legal port of entry.

The U.S. has spent $132 billion since fiscal year 2005 on border security, according to the Migration Policy Institute. That spending  includes thousands of additional agents, fencing, ground sensors, surveillance cameras with night vision, radar, helicopters, drones and criminal prosecutions of undocumented migrants caught crossing illegally.

Border Patrol apprehensions, expected to total about 400,000 in fiscal year 2016, have dropped to the lowest levels since the early 1970s. The size of the nation's undocumented population has leveled off at about 11.1 million after years of rapid growth, according to the Pew Research Center.
