I'm as big a stat nerd as there is but your plan is pretty futile unless your going all out. There are literally so many variables in comparing running plays it makes it impossible. Chris Johnson could have 5 selective carries for 5 total yds in one stretch that are better than 5 different carries for 25yds. The 1yds per carry look terrible compared to the 5yds per carry but it's more than possible the 5yds per carry were all failed runs. You would literally have to break down all the runs in each situation. 1st and 10 runs, 3rd and long runs, 20 to 20yd line runs, redzone runs, goaline runs, their first 10 runs of a game etc.... Let me rephrase that: If I present things in a manner not quite as comprehensive as that suggested by Oilerman, it's only on account of my appreciation for, and desire to mimic, his style. A comparison between seasons is not an expose on what, where, when, and why. It has value and is interesting to look at, but it isn't a comprehensive look at all things... nor need it be. code Posted January 1, 2012 Report Share Posted January 1, 2012 I might be able to help. He missed training camp. He doesn't appear to be the brightest bulb on the tree. Whatever systemic changes were made to the running game have been a bit of a challenge for him to pick up. Personally I think we have a tremendous challenge at C, and I think our OL personnel have a difficult time when not straight drive blocking or pass blocking. Scotty doesn't agree, but far too many plays are blown up before they are started because the middle of the offensive line is blown into the backfield. CJ lost confidence. CJ danced too much because of it. Teams don't respect our WRs enough to have to push their safeties deeper into coverage. Matt has lost some zip on his fastball. That all adds up to less is less in the running game. Unlike many I still believe CJ is an asset on this team. But this was largely a lost year ... for all the reasons above.
