Mettenberger made plenty of impressive throws. That part of his success can not be simply attributed to his receivers.

So did Gabbert.

A few throws does not overshadow the majority.

honestly, I just don't feel there is a large gap between a Bortles and a McCarron.............throw 'em all in a hat IMO.  Sure - arm strength for one may be an advantage a Bortles or Carr, but savvy and intangibles are a strong suit for a McCarron - which would you rather have?  If there was clear dileniation between the top 2/3 guys and the 4/5 QBs available this year, then I say...........go get your guy.  Same could be said at the RB position this year.

My preference:  Trade Back.  Get the 3rd rounder back from last year and/or 2nd and 3rd rounder if someone like a SF really wants to jump up for that Defensive playmaker (Barr, Donald, etc).

WG, I saw way more than just a "few" throws by Mettenberger that were impressive. I didn't see a majority of impressive plays that were solely due to surrounding talent. He's earned a spot in the 2nd tier of QB's.

Average qb who did ok due to surrounding talent.

He is nothing special.

That doesn't really explain why you think he's an average quarterback. Granted, Landry and Beckham are good players, but how would they have played if they had the same quarterback that Moncrief had throwing to him? Or how would they have looked if they had the same quarterback Lee had throwing to him?

Quarterbacks and receivers can be complementary. Mettenberger is more than an average quarterback. I can't say with any certainty that he will be come a franchise quarterback, that's a difficult assessment to make. But to say he's merely average and okay seems like a very shallow or disingenuous assessment.

He has great size, solid feet in the pocket (yes, they're a bit cumbersome), can throw with bodies around him, has a solid throwing platform, can throw the ball with location at the short and intermediate levels, throws the ball with velocity at all levels, played in a pro system with progression reads and is reportedly a bright guy who impressed in meetings.

Yes, he struggled throwing into the middle of the field and throwing into windows in coverage. That is arguably his greatest flaw. He's also not an exceptional athlete on the move, but he can and does manage the pocket well nonetheless.

What in particular makes him average?
