If the Titans miss the playoffs I absolutely will reference the missed opportunities in weeks 2 and 5 (not week 6, though, because I don't view yesterday as a missed opportunity). If they do make the playoffs I absolutely will reference the SD game as maybe the biggest win of the year depending on how the other games go. Really man, how was yesterday not a missed opportunity? It was absolutely a missed opportunity. We missed an easy fumble for a TD, and we had the ball on their side of the field, tied, and couldn't convert another 3-1. Yesterday was a chance to prove wake can beat any team, anywhere, no matter the circumstance. All we needed was a somewhat competent offense...really just good enough not to put the defense in terrible spots all day and expect them to hold the second best team in the game to zero points. It was definitely a missed opportunity. How about Seattle fumbling a hold? That was a 10 point swing. I understand where you're coming from the same way I understood where you were coming from when we were discussing the 2011 Giants. It doesn't mean that those games weren't huge games and the fact that the refs basically gave that one game to the Giants in week 4 at AZ didn't help get the Giants into the playoffs. Neither of us have any way of knowing how that season would have played out. What we do know is that if everything else remained the same and the refs didn't completely botch that call then the Giants would have finished 8-8 and out of the playoffs and someone else would have won the Super Bowl that year. The one difference between football and the other sports, though, is that you have so much time in between games that I'm not sure how much monentum really means. So if you have a bad loss does that really carry over as much as it would in a baseball game when you play the very next day? Maybe the Giants lose to Arizona and then go undefeated the rest of the way? Or maybe they are so distraught at how the lost they go winless? No one knows which is the entire point. I understand that. But you can't totally dismiss the bad call. Maybe everything would have broken the same? I have a hard time believing that the game made a big difference in how the rest of the season went. It was a game on the road on the other side of the country against a team that had pretty much the same record as they did so if the Giants had lost they'd have gone on to the next week. It wasn't like they'd be losing to a division opponent or some god awful team. I'll concede the point that it's impossible to know. freakingeek Posted October 14, 2013 Report Share Posted October 14, 2013 The Titans went toe-to-toe with one of the 3 best teams in the NFL at their place, a place that they haven't lost at since 2011, all with their pathetic backup QB playing like a bad college QB in the Sun Belt, and everyone outside of Cincinnati lost. And Jake Locker looked to be moving better on the sidelines. Today feels better for me than some wins do because I feel like it was a day that was supposed to be bad and it turned out to be a tight game and their AFC competition lost to easier opponents than Seattle on the road.
