scine09
Weren't those the same Jets that Rothlisberger had an even more horrific game against at home the following week? Rivers playoff losses have been to better all around teams. He's also beat Peyton Manning twice in the playoffs. Rothlisberger's playoff losses have been because he was the weak link. Nope. The Jets lost to the Colts. However, I know you are thinking of the Jets game last year, and even though Roethlisberger didn't have a big game, he made the biggest play of the day by throwing for a 1st down on the run on 3rd and long when a 4th down would have meant a punt and the Jets ball with a chance to win. The first down ended the game.

You're right, Kaeding missed the FG's, but I do remember Rivers getting picked at least once in a key spot, if not twice.

Rivers played well and really only threw one bad pass. He threw 2 picks but the first was a fluke. The pass was fine and hit Vincent Jackson right in the hands. Reavis made a great play to knock it out of Jackson's hands and as both of them went to the ground the ball bounced off Jackson's foot (or leg) and ended up in Reavis' lap while he was lying on his back on the ground. The 2nd pick looked like a miscommunication or someone running the wrong route. All in all he was still 27 for 40 and about 300 yards, with a rushing TD to boot. He wasn't anywhere close to the reason they lost. They had a couple of bonehead penalties and it was the game where Cromartie pussed out and Shaun Greene had a long TD run in the second half. I remember a lot about that game since I'm in San Diego and watched it with a Jets fan.

Regardless, as with every other QB who is on the cusp, he will get his chance this year in a very weak division and a weakening AFC.

pat
It all matters. But Roethlisberger has produced in big moments on the biggest stage. Rivers has yet to do that. And he's had chances. He played lousy against the Jets in his last playoff appearance, at home. What people are saying now about Roethlisberger is exactly what people said about Brady before the 2007 season when he went off. Nail biting play is fun to watch but overrated. Producing Big Moments on the Biggest Stage is a sign of being the weakest link on a great team. There was no super special Big Moment for Brees when he won the Super Bowl. He was exceptional through the whole game.
