Stemming from that conversation, but who are our best players? You started listing a few. I suspect I know many of the guys you might choose, and it would prove a point, but it's also an interesting discussion. Do you include Britt on talent or exclude because he never plays?... all sorts of stuff.

Oh gotcha. Yeah I think our best players are most of the young guys. I would say McCarthy, Cook, Casey, Britt (based on talent), and Ayers of course. These are guys that I think have elite ability and it's just a matter of putting it all together and doing it on a consistent basis.

Then I think you have the solid guys like Roos (used to be elite; still serviceable), Nate (very solid #2), Wright (up and coming), Stevens (great blocker, underrated hands), Wimbley, McCourty, Verner.

The vast majority of those are either on the list of top ten or are on rookie deals. That the list is made up of vets shouldn't surpriose anyone, and that most of our vets aren't better than the newer guys has a lot to do with Fisher's failures, not the FO... unless you are of the opinion that Fisher didn't run the roost... which I am not.

The cupboards were pretty bare.

I don't think there was a lot of blame going around. The CJ deal was questionable. Letting Finny walk was questionable. The Amano deal was questionable. Letting Babin walk was questionable. That's not even after the fact thinking but were pretty popular opinions before things played out.

I don't think anyone but a few could see the collapse of the running game but there wasn't really a reason to re-sign CJ with two years left.

I think they are doing the right thing by locking in young guys like McCourty even if the figure was higher than I thought it would be. That's why I'd love to see us lock up Cook before he gets free.

I won't derail this other than to say I disagree and maybe at some point I'll bother to start a thread on it and call some people retards again.

Cook gets more expensive by the game, I think. He continues to work on his weaknesses and as a more rounded player that helps his cause. He isn't great or elite, so the dollar amount matters... but the situation is begging for him to move on and explode elsewhere to our collective chagrin.

My gut reaction is that the past few drafts have been so far and away better that blame for absence of experienced talent points at whatever the process was before 2011... and bad luck... and a meddling owner messing things up from time to time... but not the current GM for sure.

Really good job guys. The pod cast just keeps getting better, and better. To bad Jamal couldn't be there, I would have enjoyed a little back and forth between Oman and himself!

Also, looking forward to Omans and CMJs podcast. When can we start expecting that? LOL!

Good to hear! We were afraid this one wasn't as strong because we were all so depressed about the team.

In regards to CMJ, we have to get him to listen first. I don't think he even knows how often he's been mentioned on the show, lol.
