Yes there was.  They were undefeated from one of the major conferences.  Their resume was legit.

 

But more importantly, it was very unsportsmanlike.  Those kids deserved a chance to make their history regardless of the odds they would have needed to overcome without their QB.

 

The whole thing was so blatantly about money that I'm done with college football until they make some radical changes.

Nope. There are only 4 spots, glad thats over this year, and without their QB they wouldn't have a chance against the other teams in the playoffs.

We will never know because they weren't given the chance they earned.  Instead people will watch teams like Texas and Alabama being given second chances they really don't deserve.

 

I am glad the NFL didn't cancel the Browns after Watson got hurt.  They look like a legit contender with Flacco right now.

We do know. They barely got by a meh Florida team and an overated Loiusville squad to end the year.

And Alabama needed a miracle (literally) to beat an unranked team to finish their regular season and remain a 1 loss team.

 

Wins are wins.  Lots of teams have close ones against lesser opponents all the time.

Alabama ended the year beating the 2 time defending Champs who hadn't lost in 25 games.  Clearly not the same lol.

Whose loss was worse?  Georgia's 3 point loss to Alabama or Alabama's 10 point loss at home to Texas?

 

Because if that's your argument, then Georgia should still get in over Alabama despite the head to head.

Georgia should have gotten in over Texas for sure. There are only 4 spots so someone isn't going to be happy. Everyone is hung up on Florida St being 13-0 but the committee isn't bound by that. It's really not the big deal you and others make it out to be.

I get the committee isn't bound by anything and that's sort of my point in a way.  It's a crooked system that is about making money and not about sports.

 

If Jalen Hurts tears an ACL this weekend will the NFL say the Eagles don't get to be in the playoffs?  No, of course not.

 

If your kid's undefeated team loses its QB, best pitcher, point guard, star player, etc. should your kid have to miss out on his playoffs because of that?  No, of course not.

 

Why even play the games then?  Let's just skip the entire fall and have Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Texas square off every January.

Your NFL comparison holds no weight. Teams earn playoff berths based on strict formulas. It's not decided in committee like college football. The overall resume plus injury are are factors allowed to be considered. Accept it and move on.

Oh, I get all that.  I'm also just not going to ignore that "other factors" such as who will draw more dollars are also factors allowed to be considered by people who will lose their spot on the prestigious committee if they cast an unpopular vote.

 

It's pretty simple for me as a fan with no bias or team loyalty involved.  I'd much prefer to watch Florida State get their shot even if it means I end up watching them get smoked by Michigan, rather than watching yet another powerhouse program like Alabama get a shot they don't really deserve.

In other words, pretty much Vandy football end of most recent seasons right @Starkiller?  And we only lost to UGA 37-20.

When you put it that way, that Bama beat the by far most dominant team in college football since, well, Bama.  And then lost to a top 3 playoff seed as their "bad" loss.... not so bad.  Yes, Bama and Georgia most likely deserved to be in top 4, and in multi-team playoff out to 8 or 12 would have ended up there if not head to head.  Neither quite as overwhelming as some past years, but still up there. 

 

Add to all that both Ole Miss beating Penn State and Mizzou beating Ohio State holding them to 3 pt, a team whose only loss was a close game at 30-24 to #1 Michigan (both non-SEC teams ranked higher than their SEC opponents), and I think that even in a "down" year for the SEC you see the strength.

 

Really don't think Bama is better than UGA, and hard to say they will win (I think Georgia would in 7-8 outta 10, Bama more like 4-5). But it's ALMOST fun to root for Nicky Satan and Bama as underdogs for once vs Dickhead Harbaugh.  Even though my buddy will be there in his private box rooting his grad school alma mater (was a VU undergrad, UM biz).  Remember him talking about their little group getting Jim to come.  Funny how it out plays out after you follow the $$$.

It's not crooked; there are literally too many teams to not have a system that is somewhat subjective. This has been the first year where it was truly challenging to decide the four best teams, and thankfully the last. If you want to cry about politics, turn your attention to Florida State, who is directly responsible for the playoff not being expanded this year. I feel bad for the players, but I feel like any of these top teams are deserving. I feel worse for the Georgia players honestly--probably the actual best team.

 

I did see the news that the 29 players sat. That causes me to have less sympathy for them. I understand the money to be made, but they only sat because losing to Georgia was a foregone conclusion in their hearts as well. Beating Georgia would only improve some of those players in terms of draft stock, it was a chance to showcase their talent, it was a chance to prove something to the world of college football that wronged you...and apparently wasn't worth it. 

 

I guarantee the number would have been a lot lower had they ended up in a bowl against Liberty, or even a team like Missouri.

SEC also has a significant historic advantage in terms of success and win rate. All of this matters in a process that is and has always been subjective.

At this point calling it subjective might be inaccurate.  It might make more sense to just flat out admit it's biased and/or too heavily influenced by dollars.
