reo
Just about everyone in the league also thought Aaron Rodgers wasn't worth a top 25 pick. The majority is dead wrong sometimes. I have no problem agreeing w/ that. Teams were definitely wrong when they thought Brees was done but that doesn't mean they weren't wrong in their logic to think it. begooode
If Brees' outlook was so rosy why were only 2 teams vying for him, and when QB starved Miami bailed and traded for Culpepper, the post-katrina Saints were the only ones left. You think Brees WANTED to go to a broken down NO at that time?

Guest
Just about everyone in the league thought Brees' career was over. This is completely untrue and wrong.
reo
Can't argue with this. Fatty Culpepper was considered even less of a risk. Wasn't Culpepper also coming off tears to the ACL, PCL and MCL? And yet the Dolphins chose him over Brees. This is completely untrue and wrong. Come on man. Dr Andrews even said he was just trying to get him a fully functioning shoulder. You think teams didn't know this?
Guest
LOL REO we will know soon...the good news is we are talking about market value here and Brees already established his 5 years ago. 5 years ago the Saints were so convinced Brees' career was over they gave him 60 million $ over 6 years with an 8 Million $ signing bonus. This is a matter of public record. Look it up. We'll find out shortly how much better the NFL thinks Peyton is right now vs. Brees then. Of course we may have to index for inflation but my guess is it won't be close enough to worry about that. After that we don't have to argue anymore. scine09
CTF, doctors told Brees he had a 25% chance to ever play football again. Do you remember the mess the Saints were in? They were an absolute mess after Katrina, there was talk of them moving to LA, and they were desperate for something positive to happen. I think it's more likely that they struck lightning in a bottle than anything else. There's no way in hell the Saints expected this out of Brees. JLocker10
When Brees signed with NO, he was a very good QB not elite He had one great year in 04 One pretty good year in 05 He didn't become elite until he got to NO
reo
60 million over 6 years 8 million $ signing bonus. OK. It was a 1 year deal w/ an option for 5 more years.
Guest
The Culpppeer call out is really valid too...as if they were the same level of FA... The Dolphins traded a second rounder for Culpeppper. Brees = 60 million 6 years, 8 mil SB.
scine09
CTF, the Saints were desperate. How many teams going into 2006 had QB issues? Why was it that only the Saints and Miami were interested? And do you REALLY think Brees wanted to go to NO? At that time New Orleans was probably the least attractive destination for anyone. Tim
Saints took one of the biggest risks in NFL history and it paid off for them. Good for them.

reo
Brees = 60 million 6 years, 8 mil SB. 1 year 8M signing bonus w/ an option for 5 more. Basically they signed him to a 1 year deal to see if he could rehab and put an easy out if he couldn't. Come on man. This is a losing argument. And instead of signing him, the Dolphins traded a 2nd for Culpepper who was coming off a torn ACL, PCL and MCL.
