freakingeek
Pacman is the real travesty because he showed for one season he was a shut down CB and an all pro return man. He would have gotten monster money if he wasn't so stupid. IF is the biggest word in the english language. You have to be mentally deficient with an over-inflated sense of self worth to blow the kind of opportunity they both had.
abenjami
Dumb article. You could say the same thing about tons of teams whose top draft picks ended up being turds.

OzTitan
I know we had McNair but I can't remember when we put that poison pill bonus into his contract. Was it before or after the draft that year? If it was after the draft then we might not have decided we were moving on from McNair yet... the Packers were already trying to move on from Favre but just didn't have any good options iirc. IIRC it was put in at the time it was extended - i.e. a few seasons before. In any case it was always going to expire by 2006 and perhaps the FO should have realized it may have been a good time to consider drafting a replacement if the opportunity came - but then again Rodgers was not exactly a can't miss prospect. He was a very ordinary 1st round QB prospect. And I don't know if drafting Cutler would have us sitting that pretty right now. People forget Cutler started getting upset when the Broncos fired Shanny, not just when McDaniels came in and dared to question his ability. Same sort of thing could have happened with Fisher. cenj
Let's not kid ourselves here. If we had drafted Rodgers, we wouldn't be GB. Rodgers is unbelievable now, but he went to a phenomenally talented team, learned behind a HOF QB, and had his mechanics rebuilt over a 3 year period while waiting as the heir apparent. The first couple years when Rodgers came in the game during preseason or in relief of Favre, he looked terrible. People kept predicting GB would take another QB in the 1st round. But who cares about 2011? A franchise QB and playmaking CB (instead of Harper) in 2008 would have made us a real Superbowl contender. In retrospect though, maybe Fisher would have been canned earlier, which would have been a plus.
