I suspect pff is trolling us.  So which one of you works for pff?

it almost appears so.

i think that somebody had a chat with them that things werent lining up with reality.

so now they compensate a bit or put their better evaluators on him

I haven't seen the All-22 from last week, so I can't say this for a fact...but while watching the game, I got the distinct impression that Marcus seemed hesitant to throw into windows and was leaving plays on the field as a result.

That's the consensus among people who have watched the all 22.

I'll give a theory to kind of defend Mariota though.....

"The only way the Browns beat us is if we beat ourself, turnovers and mistakes. Lets keep the same simple, run the ball, dumb down the offense and get out of here with a win and without risking an injury to Mariota". "Get to the bye, regroup and get everyone healthy on offense and try and get things together."

In the past, what made him so effective was his ability to deliver the ball to receivers who weren't necessarily open...but Marcus would consistently put the ball in a spot where only the receiver could get it.  He drove defenders nuts with his ability to make plays despite near-perfect coverage.

We saw very little of that last week.   Rather than firing into tight windows and putting throws where only his receiver could get it, Marcus seemed somewhat hesitant, as if he was waiting for guys to get wide open....which obviously wasn't happening.

In most cases, a QB's mistakes are terrible decisions and/or big turnovers that jump out on the stat sheet.   But in last week's game, Marcus' mistakes were more along the lines of missed opportunities and plays he failed to make.    It could be that someone with access to the All-22 will say I'm wrong, and that Marcus was forced to hesitate because guys weren't getting any separation whatsoever....and that's fine.   That was clearly a major issue, as well.

But we've seen many times in the past where Marcus made big throws to receivers who appeared to be well-covered...and he found a way to get the ball in there.   We've seen it before.....just not this past Sunday.

Have to agree with this, he seemed kinda gun shy this game. He didn't make any bad throws just didn't go through his progressions as much and seem to feel the pressure when there wasn't any which caused him to rush a few throws. Very un Marcus like, he threw like he was more hurt this game then last.

Mariota averaged 5.3yds per pass vs the Browns, same as the Browns passing game did.

Sorry @OILERMAN, but you can't bitch about the fact that Jones was getting blown up by Shelton all day, and the interior of the O-Line had a bad day overall, Conk has been struggling, and Cleveland's strength is in their front 7,  etc. etc., and not acknowledge the fact that it had an impact on Mariota's decision making and overall performance.

And unlike you, PFF is giving Marcus credit for surviving it and managing to get the ball to the receivers on 62+% of plays.

Cleveland's completion percentage was only 56%, with 3 picks.  Don't act like QB play was equal on both sides by quoting the YPP stat, forsaking all other factors.

But I know that's just you being dickish in defense of Mularkey and this offense.  Which is your SOP around here.

Good God, of course Mariota was better than the Cleveland QBs.....

Mariota is the #8 ranked QB by PFF rankings with an 83.0 grade.  Winston is #9 with an 82.6 grade.  He's top 5 in Big Time Throw%, Turnover worthy throw%, and Passer rating vs. Pressure. But he's also really bad in a few categories too.  Winston is only top 10 in 1 category but between 10-17 in every other one.  Kind of a weird deal, to us it doesn't seem like Mariota has done well this year at all but to PFF this is his best year as a pro.

Mularkey practically said as much recently. I think the offense was limited more than we know by the injury. Then you throw in the running game not working at all and the WRs not being as polished as they were against Indy plus Delanie fumbling...that's a recipe for a disastrous offensive performance.

Anyone have the updated grades (after all-22) for weeks 1-4? For him to be ranked so high on the season, he must have gotten a bump in some of those because he had some pretty low grades.

It's funny I started this thread to make fun of how low they were scoring him after what most were perceiving to be pretty good games - at least in stretches - against Jacksonville and Seattle. And now the thread has turned into most fans thinking he's playing worse and PFF thinking he's playing better and like a top 10 QB, lol.
