El Guapo
Wonder how many other quarterbacks have done this before Brady? How many punters? How about not deflating the ball but working it down to get the shine and slipperiness out? Is that altering it? How about the white sox in the 60's freezing baseballs to diminish the other teams power since they could not hit? Letting grass grow to take away the other teams speed? Numerous more ways to tweak an advantage. This is the same. Fine him and move on.

Guest
It's a scandal because Brady did something against the rules and tried to cover it up. And has apparently been doing it for 11 years. What the rule is has absolutely nothing to do with it. The NFL didn't establish guidelines for PSI ratings until 2006.

What the rule is has absolutely nothing to do with it. It was a scandal before there was any so-called coverup. It was called deflategate from jump street. This is much a do about nothing. Basically the Brangalina of the sports world.
Guest
Bam. If Brady truly made himself available and the report omitted his testimony this could get ugly. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/07/tom-bradys-agent-blasts-the-wells-report/
Mythos27
What purpose does fining Brady serve? Will that hit home that cheating is not acceptable and covering up is not acceptable? This needs to get out to the masses. A fine will not do that. If I was an owner and someone did that in my organization, after seeing the overwhelming evidence in the report, he or she would be fired. While I realize that Brady won't be kicked out of the league something unprecedented needs to be done. And, again, this has NOTHING to with my feelings on the organization and Brady and NOTHING to do with whether he actually did indeed get a competitive advantage. It's the intent and the example it will set for America and others that is big for me. I see it as no different to PED use. Both are attempting to gain an unfair advantage over the opposition, thus both deserve the same punishment. I don't think the profile and caliber of player Brady is should factor into the decision at all, but unfortunately it probably will. The penalty for this infraction is a $250,000 fine. Clearly the NFL did not consider it the high crime you guys do. Fine him whatever amount is appropriate and keep it moving.People are just thirsty to watch the Patriots lose. Brady's agent is certainly earning his money. It will be interesting to watch, as both sides seem to be disputing some things that the other side consider as facts. IrishTitansFan
Whatever. He was breaking rules since 2006 then. They introduced practice balls into a game in 04, I believe that is what you're referring to
Mythos27
The NFL didn't establish guidelines for PSI ratings until 2006. But how is this possible? Clearly an issue that tips the competitive scales this such a degree would have been addressed since the inception of the game itself.

But the Patriots organisation has been caught cheating before. (And there was a similar incident in 04). I believe it should be a bit more harsh, there needs to be a statement against those within that organisation who believe that a 250,000 fine is a fair payout for a competitive advantage.(Brady) I think a 4 game suspension is fair disciplinary action. It's a strong statement, but it doesn't really inhibit the Pats all that much. It also brings more national attention to the consequences of these actions, and hopefully prevents any team doing it again. I like the Patriots, they are one of my favorite teams outside of the Titans. I went on the stadium tour at foxboro recently.
scine09
@Mythos27, do you believe that players who take PED's or steroids should be suspended? By your logic they shouldn't since it's hurting the team.

I had a good meal at CBS Scene. Just 13 years ago that whole area was an old stadium and a harness race track. It's incredible how much it's changed.
