We should definitely be interested, imo.

Why the release? Play dropped off significantly or money? He's still just 29.

production drop off, money, injuries, out of shape, lack of motivation after big contract? lack of James Harrison (prime) on the other side

Some Steeler fans thoughts on Woodley from a few months ago:

http://www.steelersfever.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102049

"Woodley is fat and ineffective. Still fairly young, he'll be cut, picked up by somebody, lose weight and be a force again while still dealing with injuries.

Worilds wants big money, cough. He should want huge money, alot of Benjamins. He'll still deal with being injury prone wherever he ends up.
Hey, let's get some linebackers who aren't injury prone. That's a great idea."

"I know I'm going to be in the minority, but I don't think Worilds or Woodley is the answer."

"Woodley definitely isn't but we at least have reason to be optimistic about Worilds. He may not continue to produce on the same level though."

"And there is the rub, do we give Worilds a big payday and risk another Woodley dilema? Yes he played great for what amounts to a half season, but he also got injured again. If we knew he would just just as effective for the future I say sign him as JJ is supposed to be our next bigtime OLB, so staying the same as this seasons output would be more than fine. Why the hell did Woodley become a fatass walking injury, for a couple seasons the Timmons/Woodley picks were great banging.gif

"This a tough choice as I like both of them. I still believe in Wood even after all this. He was playing well this year before he got injured, and last season he was out of shape. I think this motivates him, and hopefully he stays injury free. Also someone will overpay Worilds, but if I had to choose one I'd choose Wood."

"Unfortunately we will be stuck with Woodley. Worilds will get a better deal elsewhere, as he should. He had his chance with the Steelers to shine or else we would not have drafted Jones. He was a late bloomer. Now it's just not the right fit for both he or the team financially. Woodley is simply a product of the beasts James Harrison, James Farrior and Lawrence Timmons drawing most of the attention and he going against Right Tackles one on one. Steelers miscalculated on the big contract, now we have to live with him until 2015 and just outright cut him."

"Even when healthy Woodley has been a liability. He's not a LB. He is a 4-3 DE trying to play OLB."

"I don't think that either Woodley or Worlds is suited for ROLB. Woodley is a big bull rush guy with good hand skills to beat RT's, but doesn't have quickness to give elite LT's problems. Maybe Tom Shaw can work miracles."

"Worilds has strength, motor and looks like his pass rush skills and hand fighting has improved, but for some reason showed he cannot be effective on the right side either. I think both belong on the left side and the Steelers will keep whichever one they can, then hope that Jones improves this offseason."
