i think its the opposite really... i think they tried to steal an extra season from us and filled it with some bullshit to take up time... but because they shortened each season, the BS became too much to adequately tell a story. they either needed to just do a normal season or the needed to do 2 full seasons with added BS. this in between stuff is where the half-assed writing comes in. a 10 episode season forces them to be smart and think through everything without having to resolve every single storyline completely (which is what it feels they are trying to do) 20 more episodes (instead of 13) allows them to resolve the storylines and be accurate and true to the pacing of past seasons. 13 episodes doesnt let you do either... once you add the filler, you have to resolve the filler. just not well thought out anymore.

All imdb ratings are like that immediately after airing... they are also easily manipulated by the studios.

its asking a lot of them to be patient. on one hand, they need to continue the story while staying true to the books. on the other, they realize this isnt sustainable long-term because they are not GRRM... so they have to close the story up. hence, less time for nuance and patience. i'm fine they are getting it on with. there's only like 9 episodes left... so at some point storylines cant develop anymore and things just have to finish playing out.

yeah they really should have had the beach been much more cliff-like to make it more believeable i'm also not entirely sure the last scene wasnt just kind of a metaphorical drowning. like.. everything he knows is sinking and he'd be fine having it end there. he tried to die by charging, he'd accepted it... and having it all drown him away would be ok. wouldnt be surprised to have the next scene being bronn just grabbing him and pulling up from a few feet deep.

i think the interesting deal with the stark kids and them coming together is that none of them but sansa are metaphorically stark kids. jon snow is targaryan and has technically died arya gave up her name and lineage when she trained under the many faced god bran gave up his life to be the 3 -eyed raven sansa is the only one left. she will be queen of the north. jon will probably jesus himself and save the world to stave off the white walkers. bran is the best tool in the kingdom to have around if they utilize him properly. the hound will need to kill his brother

i dont think it was weak. it was a good opportunity, he had to take it. she was off and struggling and if drogon doesnt see jaimie then he could end it all right then and there. also... as you mention, it's in his character to do so. add in that he just found out who killed his son and dealing with his crazy sister/wife... it makes good sense. i kind of agree with jamal that the water felt strangely deep for being so close to shore... whatever, maybe it was just for dramatic effect. who is going to save him? tyrian sees it.. so maybe he sends help. do we know for sure it was bronn that knocked him off the horse or could it also have been dickon?

there's links if you look hard enough that have the entire season broken down and have proved completely accurate through 3 shows so far. i didnt read them because i want to see it unfold, but those that have read them have said some good shit happens (best season yet!!) and verify the accuracy its part of the big HBO leak that occurred recently. actual episodes were released of other shows but the GOT stuff was just script summaries.
