First class person, and an underrated hockey player. Wild was leading the division, and the wheels fell off the moment Cullen got injured. He made our second line go. 2)Cullen was one of the Wild's best forwards last year. Slight overpayment, but its free agency, what'd you expect? 3)Solid signing. I know everyone over-paid today, but we seriously spent about 3 million extra this year that was a head scratcher - especially when that money could've been put towards a legit top pairing forward. I like Stalberg (and am totally fine with his deal) but the extra money thrown at Nystrom and Cullen could've been the difference in landing a 50+ point player versus them choosing another team. Weiss finally gives them a #2 center so Datsyuk and Zetterberg can play on the same line. They don't think Brunner is worth what he'a asking ($3-3.5 Mil), they'll keep Cleary instead. Brunner kinda faded down the stretch, but I think he's worth the risk at 3 million. Granted, I'm a Preds fan and actual GOAL scorers instead of total points guys are a rare thing for us, but I would've loved for us to picked up Brunner. The guy that sits next to me is a wings fan that has season tickets just for the Detroit games. He sells the tickets to other games online to opposing teams fans. Good riddance. Probably won't keep his Preds tickets because we won't play them that much anymore. Dallas will probably become my new favorite team to hate. There's a rivalry brewing there. The teams don't like each other at all. I actually respect the Hawks and their fans. They love their hockey Chitown. Columbus will probably be a good rivalry for the Preds too. The game we had with Dallas last year where it went back and forth and they went up 4-2 in the 2nd, that we eventually came back to win in OT was one of my favorite games from the last few years. Screw explaining it, just watch the highlights if you missed it. That game was so damn awesome. Even when we fell behind 2 goals so quickly after the powerplays, I just had the feeling we were going to pull it out. And then, the Stars doomed themselves by instigating a fight that wasn't necessary that sent Weber over the edge. When Shea's playing in Hulk-smash mode (which I wish he'd do more often), there aren't many teams that can hang with us. Josi was fucking clutch that game too. Anyway, yeah - it could be a good rivalry. They played us pretty physically last year and we got some entertaining games from it. Their success will depend on the Seguin trade, which if he turns out to be as good as his potential, they could be a damn solid team. It'll be hard to have a rivalry that isn't the Wild in the immediate future, but from a real, on-the-ice standpoint, Dallas may be the team. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mercalius Posted July 13, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 13, 2013 Just got back from Nashville a bit ago: The Preds held their Developmental Camp scrimmage blue vs gray team today. Austin Watson had a huge day - dude has really filled out. He looks like he's about 6"4 now and every bit of 215. Had multiple goals and was just a force on the ice. I was expecting Forsberg to stand out the most today, and he did look damn good, but Watson was just a beast. Really surprised me in a good way. That being said, Forsberg, Pontus Aberg, and Brendan Leipsic looked really sharp with the puck too. All had goals and showed some sick puck movement. Forsberg had a goal and a shoot out goal attempt that ended up barely missing but basically broke the ankles of the goalie. It got a nice reaction from the crowd even though it didn't go in. Aberg was aggressive as all get out, being very much a shoot-first player. He could be the non-pass-happy sniper we've been looking for in another season or two. For some hometown feel-goodness, Blake Geoffrion's little brother Sebastian was on the ice and he was balling his ass off. Two goals, another that rang off both posts, and a scrum back behind the net. Looked like a younger Tootoo with a much cleaner shot. I really hope he finds a future with the team. Would make for a great story. All of the guys above we're the standouts to me with some nice goaltending work from Hellberg. Saros looked good during the scrimmage but his lack of size really became apparent during the shootouts. Jones had a few bad plays - namely getting out-muscled on a few occasions but he looked really solid and smooth overall. Can't believe how fluid that guy is for a kid his size. Once he packs on about 10 more lbs of muscle, he'll be a force. Still plenty of time for him to get more accustomed to the bigger/faster play before the season starts. I heard a few people around me disappointed in what they saw in him today, but that wasn't the case for me. People don't understand defensemen need time, especially guys as young as Jones. Some of the guys on ice have 3-4 years on him, and even with that, he still managed to hang better than I expected for his first time on NHL ice. I came away impressed, even if he didn't knock anyone's head off. In addition to some of the kids having outstanding days (the Watson/Leipsic/Aberg line was unstoppable at times) one of the most impressive things was the turnout. Place was packed almost like it was a gameday. I heard several people say it was the biggest turnout by far for a scrimmage and I don't doubt it. Preds fever was in full effect. Rinne stopped by in between the two periods and the place went nuts. He's off his crutches and is still expected to be fully recovered by September. Was gonna try to get an autograph, but he was immediately swarmed as soon as he set up to meet with the fans. All in all, was a very fun day and gave me a lot to look forward to for next season. He officially announced his retirement today but will still be working in hockey as a scout for the Blue Jackets.
