He's such a shell of the 09 version you can't expect the play callers to rely on him like they did back then though. If you're getting stopped for no gain or a loss on 60 carries you'd be almost conceding 3rd down if you give the ball to CJ

According to official NFL statistics the Titans offense faced two-hundred and seventeen third downs over the course of the 2012 season. Of these, they converted eighty-three times (38%). Not included

@TampaTitan:

YPA per failed set of downs will always be low for the passing game, since an incompletion equals 0 yards. On third down the coaches trusted the passing game much more than the running game: 195 p

Something is def out of alignment. Playcalling indicates coaches had no confidence in him (for good reason) yet we optioned to bring him back in the off-season.

I predict a long, productive, family friendly fall with lots of free Sunday afternoons.

There's something to the question about playcalling.  In 2009 we did a lot of damage with CJ on third down, way more than one would expect.

We also quit running 3rd down draws on 3rd and long like fisher liked to do. It's the best time for CJ to perform well... pretty much the only time the D is actually defending the pass against us. It's an easy 7 yards a pop with a great chance to break a long one.

hell, if he breaks just one long run there... he's right on pace for his third down numbers from 2009 - just not as many carries.

again from arguments months ago....

people here are confusing the pronouns "him" and "them" (as in the players that make up the run game as a whole)
