It wasn't Rinne's night and Hannan shouldn't have gotten beat on that play that resulted in the PS. He wasn't hustling. Oh well. Glad for VCT to get a W. The refs really let them have at it when it come to letting sticks and skates get tangled up... Really sloppy play on the preds part, they got beat to the puck so many times.. It's true, Rinne will have to play at MVP level for us to do anything remotely worth while in the postseason, but stranger things have happened than that. I'm fully hoping that we get our shit together when some of the forwards that have been injured get healthy. This will stabilize us and give us depth. He's legitimately a top 3-5 goaltender in the league and an expected Vezina frontrunner. So I view it more as an expectation than a hope. Not like the Leafs where we're hoping one of our loser goaltenders gets hot and plays above his head. If Rinne doesn't turn it around soon it could be a tough second half. That was the dumbest shit I ever seen a hockey player do. A few of the guys need to get their heads out of their asses.. That game last night was brutal.. It was only one goal in a tied game, but it was one of the most ill-timed brain-farts I've seen in a long time and a picture perfect example of what has caused so many of our losses this year. I'm trying not to rail too hard on the guys, as we do have a lot of injuries to forwards on an already pretty anemic offensive unit and I feel the expectations were a bit too high coming into the season, but I really didn't think we'd miss the playoffs. 2-3 more losses without a few winning streaks and it'll be a damn hard mountain to climb back into. We need to get healthy (We miss Wilson badly) and stop with the half-assed play. I don't follow the draft too much, but isn't this a pretty weak year even if we do suck it up and net a high draft pick? Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

No one really has a clue and I've seen alleged weak drafts become great ones and vice versa. Also it;s far more of a crapshoot (like baseball). Unlike football where you're pretty sure you're going to get a decent player in the first round who will contribute it's really dicey in the NHL especially after you get past the first few picks. The mock redrafts in the NHL with the benefit of hindsight don''t have any resemblance to what actually happened. I think one of the biggest screws for the Preds was when they were an expansion team and they had a top pick there was no Crosby or Stamkos or Staal or Ovechkin...and they had to draft Legwand. Ouch. Reminds me of the Raptors...when they have top pick they get to pick Bargnani. They did get Suter and Weber high though in subsequent drafts. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I read a few boards about big names, but totally agree it's much more baseball than football. The 2003 draft where we got Suter and Weber, and then 2004 where we got Pekke, I believe in the 8th round, carried us for years. I know draft position doesn't matter quite as much as evaluation, and we may see some of fruits come to blossom (Hornqvist, Wilson, and Smith all have a lot of potential) but it just seems like we're perennially snake-bitten when it comes to goal-scorers.
