tinman
Rad needs to move on... Mike Smith is what killed the preds in this series.. I thought they matched the intensity and physical play of the yotes, there was just nothign getting past Smith.. Dude is hot when it counted.. Rinne got some bad bounces but that is hockey... I think we will be back in it next year.. Isn't Weber a FA too... Suter will be missed but the wings are the yankees of the NHL, they will nab him just to weaken us... Good year, lots of fun and good hockey.. Congrats to the yotes.. Now I have to pull for them to win it all... You want to say you went down to the best... freakingeek
Great series by the Yotes. They beat us at our own game and Smith was a wall. I too will be pulling for them to go all the way. IIRC, Suter is a UFA and Weber is a RFA. I've already heard rumblings about the Wings wanting him(Suter) badly. Isn't Datsuyk a FA as well? Maybe we could nab him and resign Web. We have a good young foundation of players and we just need to keep signing guys like Mike Fisher and Hal Gill to compliment them. Congrats to the Preds for a great season and lots of exciting moments. I looked it up and Pavel Datsyuk is a UFA after next season
tinman
We do have some great talent.. YIP is gonna be great IMO.. He was the one who impressed me the most in this series. he was all over the place, aggressive and fearless.. He wasn't sloppy with the puck when others were.. That was the achilles hill of the preds, they were sloppy in thier zone with the puck and let the yotes out hussle them to lose pucks.. We got a ways to go but I like the direction... Guest
Lol datsyuk is never going to be a pred. Suter is gone this year and weber will be gone the next. Hopefully trotz and rinne will keep them competitive. I doubt they will last 5 more years there. No troll...just truth.

I have a feeling the Wings don't think of it as a rivalry, lol.
WG53
You doubt the preds last 5 more years in nashville? Right...
tinman
hahahaha.. I am sure they are glad Nashville ended their season.. Jeez you guys are just clueless to the preds..
Guest
So you think one playoff series win means a rivalry exists? It takes much more than that.
tinman
No, I think the last 14 years has built one though.. I guess you don't think the ravens and titans have a rivelry either..
Guest
Tinman I may in fact be clueless when it comes to the Preds but if I am I am in good company with every single hockey fan and media guy that lives outside the nashville area. I once lost my baseball team..the montreal Expos. My favourite football team moved to Nashville. I know how much angst this causes and it doesn;t make me happy to fill you in on this. The sooner you understand the reality of the situation the less hurt you will be. I like the Preds. i like Trotz. I like the whole "little team that could" persona of them. This isn't anything personal. They do not have the economics to stay there long term and to keep their high profile players and the thought that you think a guy like Datsyuk is going to go three just shows how little you understand the plight of the Preds. I will say I am sure 5 years ago I was also saying they would be gone within 5 years and hopefully I am wrong again. Shouldn;t put time limits on this but it's coming at some point. And I will disagree with Old School and say the Prreds-Wings rivalry is legit. Anytime you lose to a tam in the playoffs it gets personal. It obviously does;t have the long term history behind it most hockey fans look to in discussing these rivalries but for sure there's a rivalry there now. They lost 1-1.5 million in playoff revenue by not forcing another game in Nashville and they lost an additional 5-7 mil in revenues by not getting past Phoenix and i can ensure you the ownership group there is having trouble looking at the glass half full portion of that equation like the fans do. tinman
OK putting it that way doesn't hit the nerves as hard.. Here is the thing though.. The preds bring revenue to downtown on nights when things in the sector are slow. I think I heard about 400mill at one point but I would have to go looking.. There is a lot to do downtown, just like after titans games lots of fans continue the evening at the local bars, resturants and area attractions.. Nashville's downtown is very unique to any other city I have been too, SEATLE, LA, and San Fran may be similar never been there.. Street after street of Bars that bands and talent looking to make it in music play nightly, I have been downtown on a wednesday night after a preds game and found packed houses and some of the better bands playing.. They plan around these games.. It does generate for the local economy and keep a lot of people getting paid. This is why the group that bought them did so.. They have stake in that economy.. The city would subsidize some losses if needed to keep things stable... hell the preds play in a arena for free.. Just saying.. it's not just about hockey. Now I agree they have to perform great with farmed talent.. Not very many big names are gonna be begging to play there, but after they have been they love the area. I remember a report years ago that Nashville was one of the favorite layover (few days off) stops for teams on the preds schedule... They could get away with sucking for a few years with farmed talent but they have done a great job farming so far...
Guest
Nashville's a great city no doubt and the players seem to really like playing there. The biggest issue is corporate sponsorship or lack thereof. It's almost non existent there.
freakingeek
CTF, I've always considered you to be a very knowledgable guy about sports in general, but a few years ago, you may have had a legitimate argument about the Preds, but you don't right now. Truth is no one can predict what will happen long term here. The new ownership is very committed and so is the city government. The fan base is stronger than it's ever been in it's existence. A poor fan base and poor management are the two main reasons teams leave a city. Poile has done a great job drafting young talent and Trotz can certainly get the most out of his guys. I not saying the Preds will never leave but for the next 7 years, they'll be ice at Bridgestone Arena. It sounds to me like you got an albatross hangin around your neck dude. I guess we'll see who is committed pretty soon with Suter and Weber. Don't forget we drafted them both as well as Rinne. Will we ever be a Detroit type franchise? There's not enopugh history now to even discuss the possibility, but we're building something pretty good here and we don't have to live in someplace like Detroit while we're doing it. You need to come to a Preds game before start preaching doom and gloom. I told you already, I gotta ticket for you whenever you decide to.
freakingeek
I've been watching hockey a long time and I don't ever remember an 8th seeded team that has come out of nowhere to dominate the playoffs like the Kings are. They have chewed up and spit out the top two seeds in the conference and they're in the process of dismantling the #3 Coyotes. With a goalie named Quick no less. They've won 9 friggin ROAD games in a row in the playoffs. They are on fucking fire. They are playing amazing hockey at both ends of the ice. I haven't seen anybody that can matchup with them in either conference. All I can say is wow.
