tgo
Well then maybe Jones should only play DT on passing downs period.... He gets pushed around at DE on run downs too and can't rush the passer at DE at all. Yeah, pretty much. Jason Jones should be let go this offseason. Someone will think he fits their scheme and will pay big-ish money for his talent.
Justafan
The bottom line is, Babin would have produced more than what he would have demanded in terms of money. A DE that can get you 12.5 sacks in any scheme is hard to come by and should be coveted by most teams. He was the best DE in FA last year and they let him walk without even trying to get him to stay. I said it then and i'll say it again. You don't let your best pass rusher walk out the door without a fight. Klug, Morgan, JJ, and Babin would have been a pretty good DL. The run would have still killed us but I think that will be under control more now that Mcarthy is in and they would have been able to put much more pressure on the passer. A premier DE has absolutely got to be the number one priority next offseason.
OILERMAN
Some people already made their mind up that the team did the right thing by letting Babin walk and have tried to justify it all season long regardless of how well he's played or how bad the Titans could use him. Not only would Babin have helped but having him and Jones at DT next to him would actually create some good match-ups

Not only would Babin have helped but having him and Jones at DT next to him would actually create some good match-ups They created some pretty good matchups last year. Enough to make a Ball look like a serviceable end on the other side. Morgan and Klug would also look much better with the mismatches that JJ and Babin would have created. People need to wake up. Babin has been one of the best pass rushers in the league this year, he has just played on a really bad team with a terrible DC who makes Cecil look legit and a bunch of crybaby superstars who can't get it done. He has produced. Stop worrying about the scheme. When you say things like we would have lost two more games if we had played more wide 9 to accommodate one player, it just makes you sound ignorant. The truth is we probably could have won at least two more games because teams wouldn't have been able to have a clean pocket for most of the game like Houston and Cincy did. Titans Dynasty
The bottom line is, Babin would have produced more than what he would have demanded in terms of money. A premier DE has absolutely got to be the number one priority next offseason. You are woefully mistaken in saying that Babin could get 12.5 sacks in any scheme. When he played in Houston, Seattle, Kansas City, and Philadelphia in 2009, he was forced to play a lot of 7-technique and only produced 5 sacks in his best year. The wide 9 scheme only works when you have a lead. Both Indianapolis and Philadelphia have run a variation of the wide 9 all year and both are sure to be watching the playoffs from their couches. This isn't because the wide 9 doesn't produce a great pass rush, Babin's sack number being a great example. The problem is that it doesn't work against the run. When Manning and Vick go down and you can't get a quick lead, the other team is going to run. The best defenses have pass rushing packages that they can adjust to if they get a lead. It would have been great for us to keep Babin for our pass rushing package, but that would have cost us dearly. Babin's contract wasn't unreasonable, it was unmanageable if we wanted to keep the current roster together. Ford was almost as good in a solely pass rushing role and he came for less than a fifth of the price. Babin was worth $5.6 million a year, but he wasn't worth that plus losing Chris Hope, Jordan Babineaux, Shaun Smith, or Tim Shaw.
