I'd like to see us adopt a Japanese-like model in which we focus on 1 subject in depth every 6 weeks vs getting the watered down version x5 or 6 then repeating every couple years. I talk to my wife who teaches 3rd grade about this alot. It's terrible. People don't know shit. 

They can usually recite "Executive, Legislative, Judicial" if they're "smart," but then they can't name their own Senators, reps, or remember jackshit about the Constitution. Or worse, they have conceptions that were instilled in them by other idiots or movies. 

And every kid shouldn't strive for college. If you make sub-19 on ACT or sub-800 SAT, college probably isn't the right path. Maybe some JUCO or trade school or apprentice in a trade is best. And if we agree on that, kids need to be funnelled into appropriate high schools to reach THOSE goals not the goals of society and this fictitious "dream" created with the GI bill & bubble of the 50's.
