Prunes
Who is the man then when we are talking about public workers unions? Taxpayers? I wasn't the one who used the phrase in this context. On your view, the voters lost by getting what they voted for. And unions, a small fraction of society, are "the man." ALTitan
I wasn't the one who used the phrase in this context. On your view, the voters lost by getting what they voted for. And unions, a small fraction of society, are "the man." Voters lost because, like humans/crowd, they can be persuaded what to vote for with the proper ad messages. Is not it why money rules politics? Read the article... Unions have outspend their opponents 3 to 1. I can show you all kind of stats that show that the person who spends the most $$ during the campaign usually (not always) wins. Of course, with 3 to 1 ratio it is not even a fair game. Unions had that kind of money while their opponents simply did not. Money wins. So, are you going to answer on my question of who do you think is "the man" when we are talking about public unions?
OILERMAN
So, are you going to answer on my question of who do you think is "the man" when we are talking about public unions? Here is a piece from an article about the debate in WI.: Out of every dollar that funds Wisconsin' s pension and health insurance plans for state workers, 100 cents comes from the state workers. How can that be? Because the "contributions" consist of money that employees chose to take as deferred wages – as pensions when they retire – rather than take immediately in cash. The same is true with the health care plan. If this were not so a serious crime would be taking place, the gift of public funds rather than payment for services. Thus, state workers are not being asked to simply "contribute more" to Wisconsin' s retirement system (or as the argument goes, "pay their fair share" of retirement costs as do employees in Wisconsin' s private sector who still have pensions and health insurance). They are being asked to accept a cut in their salaries so that the state of Wisconsin can use the money to fill the hole left by tax cuts and reduced audits of corporations in Wisconsin. "The Man" is the lying Gov.s' and the ones who got the benefits of the tax cuts

I am all for getting money out of politics. But from what I saw, and I live nearby, people were against this from the outset. To think that people would only want firefighters and police to have decent jobs because of propaganda is silly. I will answer the question when it makes some sense. So far it is pretty far from that. The man is a vague term for the system or the establishment. To call anyone in particular the man is silly. To call unions the man is laughable because they make up only about 15% of the population. But if you can make some sense of the question for me, I will try to tell you what I think. abenjami
I am not convinced, since you were trying to stop a very important discussion about Misty's chest photos. That is a valid point. However, I would not have attempted to stop that discussion if it was in the off topic forum.

ALTitan
Here is what happens when public unions "run" the local governments: http://www.vanityfai...is-201111.print The same thing will sooner or later happen in all union-run states.
