wiscotitansfan
Anyone see anything that completely floored them? Here are my quick takes that I am writing down between people walking in and out of my cubicle. MS: -No way they will be able to run true 4K on their new system next year -Glad I am building a PC to still be able to play every exclusive -Some good games were emphasized but disappointed how there was nothing new besides Tekken 7 (not a fighting fan) Ubisoft: -Watch Dogs 2 actually looked like it could play well -Division is still meh, but will still put some hours in here and there Sony: -They had a pretty good showing for their new software but nothing WOW'd me -Days Gone actually looks like it could be really fun, but don't see myself playing more than a weekend -Crash Bandicoot Announcement was my favorite part of the whole show.... The crowd goes wild when they tease it when the announcer walks out with the Crash shadow then you just hear unanimous sighs and groans when they say it's going to be a remaster. LOL -If VR fails (I don't think the PS4 will have the processing power to make it great), I think the console war will be similar to the previous gen in that the system who "lost" the battle the first half will come on REALLY strong Bethesda: -New Elder Scrolls is coming, Skyrim remaster will look good and support mods on the consoles.... meh (even though it was one of my favorite games in terms of time played on my 360) Nintendo: -Pokemon actually looked pretty cool but not worth buying a 3DS for -I will be buying a nintendo console solely for Zelda. Looks like how Skyward Sword should have been in terms of how smooth the game is since they don't need to slow the game down to implement the precise sword play that the wii-mote required
TampaTitan
Anything additional on No Man's Sky?

Which imo means they wanted to sweep that game under the rug They were VERY VERY V.R. heavy so the fact that there was no mention essentially confirms that it will not be VR compatible They stuck to their guns too on not mentioning NEO, I thought they were going to cave and make a mention. I am curious to the specs of the new system though because Project Scorpio for Xbox will have specs similar to a 980ti (which won't be able to run true 4k a couple years down the line) and I would assume that Neo is probably going to be worse than Scorpio because they are going to be a year a apart. I just don't see how anyone would be able to run quality VR on a system worse than a few year old PC.
Stranger
Best of the show for me has been Zelda. They've completely went in a new direction than the standard formula for 3D Zelda games. I'm hyped for it. Deciding on whether to play it on Wii U or buy an NX, whatever that may be. Mafia III was my next favorite showing of the event. Published by Take Two, which is the same publisher for Rockstar's GTA. The game is set in the 60s and looks fucking awesome. Watch Dogs 2 looks interesting. I'll likely end up getting it eventually. The 1st one was a huge flop for me, but it looks as though they fixed most of what was wrong with the 1st one in this new one. Horizon Zero Dawn looks like it could be a really fun game. Sort of reminds me of a 3rd person Far Cry mixed with MGSV. I was disappointed that there wasn't even a new trailer for No Man's Sky. I'm still day one for it though. Definitely my most anticipated game this year. Ghost Recon Wildlands I'm torn on. They say it's completely playable solo, but I wonder how well 3 computer AI will work as teammates in game built around co-op. Other than that, it looks fun. I didn't really pay much attention to Xbox's conference as the only exclusive they have that I care about, Fable, was cancelled. Besides that, I didn't like the direction they were going with it anyway. State of Decay looks like it might be fun. Not sure if it's a full exclusive or just a timed one though. If NX turns to be a regular console (no way they can survive with another gimmick), I'm all in on that day 1 WD2 looks like it won't flop and Ubisoft is AMAZING at correcting their mistakes with sequels throughout the ages Horizon looked terrible imo, nothing necessarily wrong with it but something I know I wouldn't like playing No Man's Sky is weird, may pick it up for PC but the hype is quickly fading away for people who never saw the immediate hype and aren't fanboying themselves into the hype imo GR:W - That game has SOOOO much potential but yeah, I'm worried that it will be too much like the Division and flop when it comes to anything but just playing with your bros

I hated the Wii's controls, but I enjoy the Gamepad. It's essentially just a standard controller with a screen in it. So long as the controls are at least somewhat standard, I'll get the NX. The biggest worry I have for Horizon is how long will it be fun and will the gameplay become stale after a few hours. What we've seen thus far is always the same chasing mech dino's around followed by a bigger boss style mech dino, then looting them. It's hard to explain my hype for NMS. I know the concerns most have for it and I'm not going into it expecting it to be something it isn't. I know it's fly to a planet, loot, craft, fly to the next one, mix in a few fights here and here, rinse and repeat, but it looks oddly relaxing and enjoyable to me. The thought of space exploration seems fun.

I don't think VR will be as amazing as these corporations are hoping but I sure as hell spending hundreds and buying a HTC Vive at some point simply to play Minecraft. I have no problem with someone getting extremely excited about something that can be passed off as something as simple as exploration.

I don't think NMS is special when it comes to death threats when delays are announced. I was disappointed that it got delayed, but I got over it about 5 minutes later. lol Wanting anyone to die over it never crossed my mind though. As for VR, I think that it will eventually be the standard way to play, at least in regard to just wearing the headset. But it's a few years off. The VR experience, especially a good one, isn't going to be cheap, so it'll be several years before it becomes affordable enough to become main stream. Buttons and Joysticks have been the way to play games for the last 30+ years, so I don't think VR is going to take over the standard over the next couple of years. Jonboy
I'm a Sony guy...but that conference was one of the best I've ever seen. Absolutely nailed the pacing. It's what gamers have asked for for years. Cut out the corporate nonsense and just show us the games. And that's what they did. Game...after game...after game. Not to mention, they showed a ton of exclusives you'll only be able to get on their platform: God of War, The Last Guardian, Detroit: Become Human, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, and Kojima's game. That's a freaking insane lineup. Not to mention...they're bringing back Crash! The more I think about it, the even better it gets in my head. Weakest part was probably the closing, but everything else was so good, I can't knock it. 10/10 for me. Should've ended on Spider Man or Kojima's game though and moved the Days Gone demo to right after the Days Gone trailer. Imo, they made the right choice NOT showing No Man's Sky. Just release the freakin' game already. It's one of those that's been too hyped.

I'm sure you've seen the GAF rumor about why a new Red Dead wasn't shown...Not sure I believe it myself, though it is plausible. Kojima's game is probably another 5 years out. lol Though I am happy that he and Norman Reedus are working together again on a new game. PT .... what could have been. I really loved the Orchestra that Sony put on. Classy AF! GoW & Detroit don't really appeal to me. Days Gone, I'm anxious to see more of. I didn't get to see the gameplay live as my internet went out and it was a pain in the ass trying to find it on Youtube because Sony took it down and all I could find was the trailer minus the gameplay. Finally found it and boy oh boy when the horde comes flowing out of the train cart....
Jonboy
What's the RDR rumor? Not sure I know which one you're talking about.
wiscotitansfan
@Jonboy Disagree completely on Sony (I'm a MS fanboy, only bought a PS3 for Last of Us two years ago). Their pacing was fantastic and couldn't be more wow'd by that, but only that. None of the games interested me though besides Days Gone and Spider-Man. That is all preference though so can't actually criticize the lineup. The diversity and exclusives is insane but people are trumping it compared to MS simply because it is on PS4 only compared to MS's two operating systems. I don't necessarily think MS is doing the smart thing but has to be considered a win for gamers in general. Things they didn't say had a larger impact for me than the software they did show... But that's the pessimism in me (especially compared to PCs now that I have actually looked into the power needed for a true "next-gen" experience). Another thing that Sony did/didn't do that they are infamous for is they had a hype show without actually releasing details or anything that will release soon. Most of those games don't even have release dates or time frames even that I saw. This isn't a bad thing but it irks me that it's a TV commercial and nothing more. Sony is great a putting on a show but that's what it was imo. A show and not necessarily a press conference. Microsoft puts on a bad show but the things they are aiming for are much more game changing than some flashy pre-rendered video of a game. I'm not sure MS will have the capacity to come back this gen and be able to compete with Sony but I can't in good faith try to convince any of my friends to switch to Playstation from Xbone YET because very little they showed was concrete. MS had to jump ship from a long-term strategy though to advertise what will be available ASAP solely to try to gain some limited market share. wiscotitansfan
Really? Never heard that either. Interesting on when it will be announced, I was half expecting it to be on MS's because they botched the backwards compatibility for the XBone by accidently releasing it on the Live store for a few minutes. Never played RDR but have only heard amazing things so a reveal would have been exciting no matter which console had the news.
