Cyrus
A short video and not trying to make too much of it, but side-by-side there's a huge discrepancy in how quickly the ball comes out. If you pause it at the top of Mettenberger's release, you can see Mariota's pass is more than halfway to the receiver. Just thought it was interesting to note and I was caught off-guard by how obvious it was when watching the video.

socaljake
Pretty major difference there. Can be the difference between a sack/strip fumble and a completion
Guest
Cyrus - Do you know why every second basemen, SS, 3rd basemen, and catcher in the major leagues throws right handed?
IrishTitansFan
Video also seems to show that Mett is splitting reps with Whitehurst rather than Mariota, but I guess we already knew that
MamlngEnvy
well thats not fair. mett had to turn and open up his whole body turning to the right. thats a whole extra step.
Cyrus
Cyrus - Do you know why every second basemen, SS, 3rd basemen, and catcher in the major leagues throws right handed? I'm assuming it's because it's substantially easier/quicker to throw to first base as a right-hander.
Guest
Lol! Guys the reason every second basemen, SS and 3rd basemen in the major leagues is right handed is so they don't have to turn their body to throw to first base. They're way quicker to get it there than a left hander ever could be. In this case you have Mariota, a right hander, throwing to his left. He can throw across his body just like an infierder to first base. You have Mettenberger, a right hander, throwing to his right. He has to turn. MamlngEnvy
Video also seems to show that Mett is splitting reps with Whitehurst rather than Mariota, but I guess we already knew that actually it shows all three rotating through this drill
IrishTitansFan
actually it shows all three rotating through this drill Yeah it could be just rotation but Mett comes out to be replaced by Whitehurst as Mariota just moves spots. You're right Mariota probably came out after the next rep, just something I noticed.
Guest
This one better get me a lot of rep points or I'm throwing in the towel.
IrishTitansFan
While CTF's point is a just one, Cyrus is right too. Mariota's release is clearly a lot quicker as are his feet. Watch both QB's feet.
socaljake
Even before watching this, it's pretty obvious from watching both Mariota and Mett that Mett is heavy footed with a slow release and Mariota has a quick release and quick feet. It's not exactly a shocking revelation.
