How again is this ridiculous? Why would the NFL want this? How is this a win for the NFL? How is this a win in any way for this multi-million dollar business? A team cheated. Period. They got caught. I don't give a shit if other teams do it all the time or not. When someone gets caught cheating you call them out and HAMMER them. The NFL could have easily swept this under the table and avoided what is a black eye to them.

Oh, and contrary to the mini brained view that the balls being deflated did little to help the Pats win that isn't even the point. The point is we should not tolerate cheating. Period.

Oh yea, the NFL has constant "PR blunders". Right. The NFL is really hurting and has to use this to cover up something. Does it get any weaker of an argument?

I don't consider this cheating, I consider it bending a pointless regulation that I don't believe was put in place to make the playing field level in anyway.  I also don't consider it to have impacted a game at a level to be considered an unfair advantage. That makes it ridiculous.  I, and most people that don't read US Weekly or watch WWE probably don't give a quarter of a fuck.

Any publicity is good publicity.  Especially publicity where it shows the NFL's "crack team" of investigators getting to the bottom of a "scandal".  This is a joke and very hard to take seriously.  I'm glad you are taking it so seriously for the rest of us though.

No, what I'm saying is , in regards to an investigative report that could form the basis for sanctions, the absence of proof that Brady wasn't involved doesn't prove he was in on it. That is a very loose application of preponderance of evidence. The NFL has to be very careful here because the case is flimsy as hell and any punishment they doll it will ultimately tarnish the NFL along with one if it's most popular franchises. Florio wrote an article yesterday talking about how the NFL brought this on themselves. He said there is no way Tags allows this to happen. He would have called Kraft after Griggson complained and told him to get it under control. Instead the NFL conducts a sting operation, manages to botch it, and now has painted themselves into a corner. I suspect the Pats will get a slap on the wrist and nothing will happen to Brady. All that being said, make no mistake about the fact I fully believe Brady orchestrated the whole thing. I simply don't believe the Well report provides sufficient evidence to prove it.

How exactly is it flimsy? There are text message implying that Brady was in on it. Brady refused to cooperate. What does that tell you? There was a study done that says that there's a 99.6% chance that the balls were deflated deliberately.

Whether the NFL botched it or not is not the point. The point is that Brady, as clear as day if you read the report, is essentially paying people off to gain what he clearly deems a competitive advantage, something that is against the rules. Not only that, but the investigation showed an example of this happening 11 seasons ago. If Brady thought it was this important to pay off employees to do this, imagine the advantages he was really getting. And if it changed the outcome of just one game then it hurts the integrity of the league. It also makes you wonder what else the Patriots, specifically Brady, have been doing all this time, Spygate not withstanding.

What would happen at your job if you paid off a fellow employee to gain an advantage, particularly if that advantage was against the rules?

It's about the principle here. If the NFL does NOT come down hard on Brady they're essentially saying that it's okay to break rules. What they need to do is nip this problem in the bud. While it won't stop players and organizations from cheating altogether, it will give them a warning that if they do cheat and get caught they will be severely punished. It also sets a good example for the millions of people, particularly kids, who follow NFL football.

Brady does deserve to be punished but not in the way some really want him punished. Fine the dude an appropriate amount and keep it moving. The problem is that people want wins/superbowls taken away and asterisks next to everything when all the violation really warrants is a small to modest fine. Administer the fine so we can all move on with our lives.

From earlier this year:

“I didn’t alter the ball in any way…our equipment guys do a great job of breaking the balls in. When I pick those balls out, at that point, to me, they’re perfect. I don’t want anyone touching the balls after that. To me those balls are perfect. And that’s what I expect when I show up on the field,” Tom, theQuarterback of the Patriots and husband to supermodel Gisele Bundchen, said about picking balls before a game.

“I don’t believe [i'm a cheater.] I would never do anything to break the rules,” Tom said. “It’s a very competitive league. I believe in fair play.”

Tom also said the first he heard of “deflate-gate” was Monday morning, after the AFC Championship game. “I was surprised as anybody when I heard what was happening….I have no knowledge of anything. I’m very comfortable saying that.”

I would have liked to have heard from Gisele.  I bet she has a thing or two to say about handling balls.

Scine, you are inferring what you want to based on your preexisting bias against the Patriots and Brady. Ask yourself if the evidence presented in the report would be enough to sanction the QB of the Titans? Honestly I think the NFL will likely pursue Brady for not cooperating with the investigation instead as that is clear as day.

Take a junior high marketing class and maybe you'll grasp my point.  I need to take some drugs to get on your level dog!

They have more than enough evidence to punish the Patriots severely. That's why the footnote says what it does, because the conclusion of the report was that it was "more probable than not" that the Pats interfered with the footballs. That's all they need, as set down by NFL guidelines, to take whatever action necessary, and for that action to be completely justified.

No thats not how it works. The report states it's more probable than not that Brady knew about it. It does not provide a smoking gun which would give them the leverage they need to take action. The NFL has to be careful here for the reasons I noted in my previous response to Scine.

I don't want any of that. I want the NFL to set an example and show the rest of the league and also the youth who follows the league that cheating is not acceptable and, worse, covering it up is not acceptable. A suspension, even if it's one game, will serve notice.

The worst part for Brady is the public embarrassment of the whole thing. Like it or not it does taint his legacy and tarnish his reputation in the court of public opinion. Maybe it doesn't to you but if you look at the polls about this around the country it's about 60-40 for those who believe it taints his legacy.

And, worst of all, it makes him look like a sleazebag.

They have enough to punish Brady to the fullest extent of the fine. They pretty much absolved the Pats organization in the report. Pretty much the NFL suspects Brady acted alone with the aid of some ball-handling flunkies.

I agree that The Patriots as an organisation should not be punished. (With regards to fines for Kraft, loss of draft picks). I didn't make that clear above. But both of the equipment managers should be stripped of their jobs, and Brady should be suspended 4 games IMO
