Mike Shanahan nearly quit last season because of RGIII/Daniel Snyder relationship

Word around town today is that Shanny fabricated this story to force the owner to fire him. It's being tagged as his exit strategy. Supposedly Shanny is interested in the Texans job as well. Funny stuff.

Of course it is. Shanahanegans have been obvious for years, I'm shocked anyone wouldn't smell the BS.

Him and Fisher are better politicians than they are coaches.

Shanahan deserves 100% blame for this mess -- he chose Washington knowing the situation.

He either:

1) agreed to sign the contract in Washington without some agreement of the QB plan -- which is highly unlikely considering he knows you need a QB to win consistently. If so, he's a moron for not getting a say in the QB they were going to build around (and his son was going to be responsible developing).

2) He agreed to RGIII or the possibility of moving up to get him, in which case he's obviously to blame for screwing the pick up.

I heard a report on the radio today that Griffin actually socializes with Snyder and that Griffin doesn't talk to the other players on the team.

I'm not defending Shanahan because I'm not a fan of his but that's an impossible situation when your owner and most important player have a social relationship.

No coach worth his salt will want to go to Washington under those conditions. They'll end up with Art Briles or someone like that.

RGIII + Dan Snyder = VY+ Bud???

Been saying it for a long time Griffin is an egomaniac and a diva

He's becoming one of my least favorite players in the league. I'll give Cam Newton credit. He'd probably admit he's arrogant. RGIII comes off as very disingenuous to me. He believes his own hype and acts like he's above the team. People are going to look at him like a coach killer. Hell, he beat VY to the punch by three seasons. I wouldn't want to coach him. People might not like Shanahan, but he is a long tenured HC who is respected. If Griffin can run over him that quickly, how does a young HC feel about coaching RGIII?

I think the main thing to remember is that Snyder's background is in marketing. He wants a marketable product like RG3.

I've given a lot of thought to American sports v. the euro model lately. In Europe if you don't perform on the field you risk being relegated to a lower league. How many teams hang around the bottom of the league every year in the USA? A lot. In Europe those teams would be relegated to the minor leagues.

So, in Europe you are required to put a competitive product on the field or risk your business losing a ton of value. In the USA you need to win the marketing battle to sell seats before the season starts. Once you have done that your revenue stream is complete.

Snyder knows that RG3 is a huge marketing draw. Sign him and the rest of the business takes care of itself. Winning has little to do with economic performance in the NFL. Sad but true.

Snyder definitely cares about the marketing aspect. That's a big reason they got RGIII. There was a report that Shanahan wanted Tannehill. I'm not tuned in to everything that goes on there, but it makes you wonder if Snyder pulled a Bud.

Let's not forget, Snyder is also the guy who signed Steve Spurrier to a bunch of hoopla. He's the same guy who brought Joe Gibbs from the crypt back into coaching again. He's also the guy who signed a bazillion high priced FA and got little to nothing in return. Shanahan was a big splash signing.

Snyder also sued hundreds of thousands of ticket holders who couldn't pay for their tickets after the recession hit. He's done a bunch of pretty controversial things over there.

And there's a report on Yahoo that Snyder is trying to find a loophole to fire Shanahan and not pay him. Bud would be proud. At least a lot of us younger Titans fans got Bud at a really old age. Dan Snyder I believe is only 48. They might be stuck him for another 40+ years.

Oh this is gonna get good....

Per to 2 people who have seen the gameplan, #Redskins appear to be moving forward with Kirk Cousins at QB. RGIII hasn't been told either way

Ppl inside building are under impression Shanahan is making move at QB to Cousins. If he changes back it's bc RG3 convinced him otherwise
