It wasn't a matter of if he was going to win, but rather how. I didn't really expect Weidman to win either, but holy fucking shit, he just fucking KNOCKED OUT ANDERSON FUCKING SILVA!!! Seriously 70% of Silvas fights were headscratchers or reachers - and the refusal to fight Machida/Jones and basic refusal against GSP doesn't help that image. He held the belt for forever and is an incredible fighter, but outside of Rich Franklin, Hendo (which I've wanted to see rematched for years), and the circus match against Forrest, who has he really beaten? I'm a Chael fan, but implying even they were in the same class was a stretch. Silva should've been in the LHW division for years as his walking weight is identical to most of theirs. He just cuts like a bastard and feasted on a weak division for half a decade. I think you could flip a coin and pick GOAT between Silva & Fedor. They were both seemingly untouchable in their divisions for a long time. I feel like Anderson's competition was weaker, but it isn't his fault that the MW division never had a legitimate contender until Sonnen and now Weidman. Had he went into each fight and not clowned around, I have no doubts that he could have finished each one of them in the 1st couple of rounds. I think this gives credence to GSP being better P4P. Even though he can't seem to finish opponents, the level of competition in the WW division is certainly better than that of the MW division. Silva's legacy would have definitely been greater had he fought primarily at LHW. Until Jon Jones, LHW looked like the strongest division in the UFC for a long time. I'm convinced that Silva would have mopped the floor up with that division as well, with the exception of Jones. Jones, in my opinion, will go on to be greater than both Silva & GSP. He's young, dominant, and doesn't play around. He doesn't give his opponents the chance to knock him out by purposefully staggering around.
