Wow, I wish I hadn't read that but I told a co-worker that something big was about to happen on Mad Men. I actually thought Don might die, he's really losing it lately. Mad Men is so good about all the hidden messages and symbolism I think this theory could very well be true.

Not a finale of big events, unless you were really invested in the storyline with Pete's mother.  I mean, sure it would be a big deal if SCDP actually got rid of Don, but that would kind of be a show killer, so I will guess that it won't happen.  I guess Megan could actually divorce him, but I don't think Don would even be very upset about that.  Man, what a spineless sleazebag Ted turned out to be.  He basically uses Peggy for one night and then flees town.  Also, I guess I didn't adequately follow the talk of who was going to LA.  It seemed pretty clear that it was just going to be Ted but at the end there was talk of Pete also going to LA?

I can only assume that since Pete lost Chevy there is nothing left for him and he's going to LA with Ted....

And you're all wrong about Ted, he's not a sleazebag, he really is a good man. He wants Peggy but he wants to save his marriage and family and decided to leave town rather than be drawn in by Peggy. It's actually Peggy who is the shitbag, she's basically the female Don Draper. She's a home wrecking whore. Remember a few episodes back she offered Stan some sex to come kill the rat? Then she could care less that Ted is married and even dressed slutty to seduce him.

I love the Bob Benson story line, him and his gay buddy totally fleeced Pete's mom and Benson forced Pete to lose Chevy. Pete just loses at every turn, his family, the standing in the company and his battles with Don and now Bob, he even got his ass kicked by Lane. Benson even sucks up to Joan and gets in good and wins out over Roger.

The Hershey pitch was amazing. Don nailed it and they had the account all wrapped up but Don cannot handle lying about who he is any longer. It was awesome when Roger asked him if that story was really true.

I thought Don might end up dead in the final season but it looks like he might redeem himself and go out on top. Him showing his kids were he grew up was an awesome ending to the season. You could see Sally start coming back to him.

Fair points on Peggy, though I don't think she is anywhere near Don's league yet.  Of course there is a pattern with her going all the way back to her sexing up Pete in his office in Season 1.  As for Ted, his actions may have been a little more noble if he had come to the conclusion that he had to get away from Peggy to save his marriage, before he actually slept with her.

Additionally, did you half expect an empty elevator shaft when Don was leaving SCDP, or was that just me?

Well I knew that Don wasn't going to die before the final season. There could still be some tragic ending perhaps after redemption.

How hilarious was it when Don ripped off Stan's idea?

Let's not forget Peggy gave up her baby and pretty much disowned it, turned her back on her own family and religion(which her mom cares deeply about). She wanted to sleep with Don, slept with Pete and Duck and Ted. Was totally willing to sleep with Stan.

She might be worse than Don

I too thought about the missing elevator. That scene was so memorable that every time an elevator is shown on the show I think about it.

Pete's character is a bit of an oddity. I'm not entirely sure why he backed down on Benson, who was scared enough to request he be given a head start to get out before Pete exposed him. I mean the simple fact Benson is gay is enough ammo to ruin him given the era in question. Is the idea that Pete is just too defeated a man with his entire situation to fight?

I'm also not sure why Benson flirted with Pete in the first place. It almost unraveled him. He just seems to be such a meticulous player of the game and that it was such a long shot if his goal was to really bed Pete, but I can't see the point of it otherwise so I guess that was the goal. In hindsight it seems like a bit of a forced and lazy way to set off the series of events between Benson and Pete.

I think Benson must have really liked Pete.  I remember him going on to Joan about what a generous person Pete was a few episodes before the flirtation.  No one can confuse Pete for being generous unless something is going on.

First of all Pete was almost fired for trying to expose Don's real character....

Second of all they had just had the meeting when Pete tried to say he didn't need Bob on the Chevy trip and was pretty much told he was taking Bob or he could take a walk. They clearly all really liked Bob and had total disdain for Pete.

I think Pete played it correctly given his standing in the company.

Well, I guess he played it correctly if you consider having to move to LA with a demotion better than exposing Benson and seeing what happens. To me it seemed he was backed into a corner far enough to try the latter but I can buy him being too weak and drained to bother with it all, I just wasn't sure that was what they were going for.

Pete was an idiot for trying to drive that car.... but it was obvious the guys in Detroit liked Benson and didn't like Pete.

Pete was just in a no win situation, had he given Benson the one day head start you know Benson would have done him in then too
