Is MJD Done? Fantasy Focus 2 of 2

Not trying to be offensive, but isn't that league boring? It's pretty awesome you've been in a league that long, but dang...

Well boring isn't quite right, we all operate under the same rules. Frustrating is a better word, I have Stephen Jackson who runs for tons of yardage and no points. hell even MJD had that kind of year two years ago.

I already have some owners on board for changing so that should make it a little less frustrating.

So it's a TD only league? I don't see how that favors Jones over MJD. What am I missing?

Youth over age. Jones Drew has maybe two more productive seasons (my guess/ gamble) vs Jones having a career ahead of him. Also I had the number 3 overall pick last year and got A.J. Green (Ingram went 2nd) setting up my receiving core as Nicks, Britt, A.J. Green, Julio Jones and Vincent Jackson.

In a dynasty league, it's always a gamble. I actually traded for Peyton in a dynasty league last year because the guy was desperate and I only had to give up whoever that dork in Miami was (name escapes me). I find that some people value youth too much, while others ignore it completely. By playing the middle I've built a pretty dominant team.

The question with Jones-Drew is how long he'll be here and how much you can absorb his loss short-term. If he last five years somehow, that sucks. If not having him next year is the difference between a trophy or not, that sucks.

The good news is that history does suggest he's about into his swan song... but you never know.

Another thing, in our league, you have to factor is how many points will a real NFL team score. I bet on Atlanta scoring more TD's than Jacksonville. Even though Jones Drew is a one man gang is Jacksonville, they suck and don't score alot. Altanta can put up points, I'm just gambling that Julio gets his share.

By the way, one thing we did in our dynasty league that I think has worked out very well is that we allow teams to keep whoever they want. They could keep their entire team if they wanted. The only trick is that at any given time they must have at least three players who are either rookies or second year guys. We then expanded the roster size by two players over normal so that two of the three essentially had roster exemptions.

In essence it forces turnover because only rookies from last year count towards the three this year, so most teams have to at minimum drop a guy or two and draft a new rookie. At the same time, it allows for some youth development because you can keep a young guy who isn't producing (yet) without losing a bench spot.

Some teams end up dropping a lot more than necessary due to poor roster management in prior years, but others (like me) hardly turnover at all and we keep the benefit of smart moves. We're about 5 years in and it's already easy to tell who makes good moves and who doesn't. The teams who won year one aren't good anymore because they really just had a good draft, the teams who have no patience and swing bad trades are now trash, meanwhile there's a few teams who just dominate like crazy... it's such a different dynamic than a league where you get to hit reset each year.

In my opinion a TD only league is precisely where a true #1 RB like MJD sill holds major value. Is Jones going to score 10 TDs a season with Turner and White getting more touches? I highly doubt it. I understand wanting to make sure you don't get stuck with a washed up MJD but at 27 and only having carried the load for 4 years, it's too early to dump him.

A quick history of our league, we started way back in 1990, fantasy was just starting and ESPN had no coverage of fantasy. I started the league with 5 buddies, I won one championship in the first three years. I sold my team after the third year because of a job transfer. This coming season will mark my 3rd year back in the league. Somewhere in between they added four more teams, tweaked a couple of rules.

The best part about our league is it's 10 guys getting together in early August conducting our draft, submitting trades proposals, drinking beers, making rule chages, drinking more beer, bragging, drinking more beer, making the guys who haven't won a championship set at the "kiddie table", bitching about trades the other guys made, and drinking beer. We have known each other all of our lives, so @Jamalisms its not boring.

I run a dynasty league where teams allowed to keep 4 players, 2 on offense and 2 on defense. There are no restrictions or term limits on keepers. We do have a salary cap though which is pretty cool.

I just hate only watching for TDs... but, yeah, there's more to a league than a scoring system.

I agree RB's are a major value in our league. That is why the top rookie RB's go early. To better understand the trade, which worked for both us, you need to know the rosters. He was the worst team and needed a RB, I was the third worst team and needed recievers. He had one RB worth starting week in and week out, Ray Rice. I had Jones-Drew, McFadden, Stephen Jackson, Cedric Benson and Pierre Thomas and two first year receivers (at the time) Britt, Nicks. Other than that I had V. Jackson. I needed a WR and he needed a RB. Good deal for both of us.

@ I should also add what the complete trade consisted of; He got Jones-Drew, I got last years #1 overall pick and his #1 in next years draft. I liked the deal he liked the deal, so we are both happy. As I said I think Jones-Drew has a couple of years left, so he got value. It didn't hurt me, I moved up from 3rd worst to 3rd best. He moved up from worst to 5th.

This year I have the 8th overall pick, don't know who I will get.

All that really matters is that you like the trade. I wouldn't have done it but I've had a revolving door at RB for 10 years so I'm bias. A few years ago I actually traded Aaron Rodgers for Ray Rice and a 1st because I hadn't been very successful at finding a consistant RB. Luckily I play in a QB driven league and still manage to finish top 3 behind Brees and Eli but I know I need to get better at RB if I want win it all.
