Hell it isn't just Charlie his dad David Whitehurst was a mediocre QB back in the day for Green Bay earning a paycheck for nearly a decade from late seventies/mid eighties throwing 28TD/51INT with a 59.2 QB rating. Then good 'ol son Charlie joins the league getting a dapper job as a backup QB making a couple million a season. Charlie has been in the league about a decade too just like his dad before him. Charlie has 10TD/6INT with a 77.0 QB rating in nine years of action. Nice work if you can get it.

Dang. The Whitehurst clan is getting closer. Maybe in another generation or two they'll produce a starter.

Exactly Merc.  It is as much about having a steady, vet presence in the QB film room and on the sideline and locker room than it is about Whitehurst's ability to get wins.  With two extremely young and inexperienced guys at 1 and 2 there is arguably a lot of value to this.  And the other good part about Charlie is he knows what he is at this point and has no delusions or aspirations about being a starting QB in the NFL, so he can be a unifying presence.  He knows if he fills his role correctly he can hang on and make quite a bit of money for himself in this advisory back-up role, if not here than on another team next year.

Then cut him, save the roster spot for somebody who matters, & hire him as a QB coach assistant. Because nobody but Kenneth Whisenhunt is gonna sign this stiff to their roster.
