MLB Trade Deadline

Castro was another very good young arm they gave up in the Tulowitzki trade by the way. You have to give the Jays credit for stockpiling this young talent.

Hoffman's also coming off TJS. Velocity is there but he hasn't missed many bats. And he's going where pitchers go to die (Coors Field). And pitchers are a risky asset. Tulo's had some injuries, but he's a proven player. One of the best in the league and still young. Plus, he can eventually move to DH now that he's in the AL which makes him even more appealing.

Astros just made a huge trade for Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers. What a miserable 24 hours for Mets fans. First they don't get Gomez and we find out it was financial reasons. Then they choked away a 6 run lead today against a miserable Padres team. Now they find out another team gets Gomez lol.

The lost Gomez in the most Mets way possible.

Milwaukee did well in the deal. Santana has looked awful on the MLB level thus far, but maybe he can adjust with a new team.

They gave up a really good prospect in Brett Phillips to get Gomez/Fiers.  Santana is sort of interesting too but I don't trust his plate discipline.  But they did get Fiers in return who is an underated pitcher.  Probably a trade I would say slightly favors the Astros.

Mets are talking to the Reds about Jay Bruce.  Apparently, Wheeler is  the main piece that would go back to the Reds.  They're not going to get that much salary relief from the Reds  who are looking to dump salary.  It's funny how they are discussing a guy who makes more than Gomez.  Of course this is the same team that shelled out a bunch of cash for Michael Cuddyer (and gave up a first round draft pick) over the offseason.

Giants acquire Mike Leake and send one of their top prospects over to the Reds.  The pitcher in question is Keury Mella.  But he is only in A ball though.

And lastly, my Pirates finally made an impact move in picking up Joakim Soria from the Tigers.  Good move since their bullpen is really questionable outside of the top 3 guys.  Now get a 1b.  They really need a starting pitcher as well but they won't pick one up because they don't want to dump/demote one of those bums at the back end of the rotation.
