abenjami
I'm putting this in off-topic and not in the political forum because the intent of this thread is to share information or news about changes you've heard that are being made due to the tariffs. This type of information is more economic or about how people's lives are changing. One company in particular I heard was very affected is Hewlett Packard. A ton of their manufacturing is done in China. I heard that they are totally closing down all operations in China. It's going to cause a problem in the short term but about 3 months from now they expect to be up and running with new manufacturing locations in Mexico and Thailand. HP computers will suck regardless of where they're made.

It might not make any difference in the quality of their products but they sure sell a lot of "sucky" computers and printers for billions of dollars a year. Building new factories will continue to drive up costs in the short term which consumers will pay. And with these factories not in the US, there is still the risk of tariffs. It is not clear to me how this improves things economically (geo-politically, sure).

Just moving them from China to different foreign countries that also have cheaper labor but not as high tariffs. It's unreal how Trump thinks tariffs will suddenly make everyone create jobs here as opposed to just using cheaper labor elsewhere.

Anyways, most of my impact this far is from the market hit. But I have already been trying to avoid Amazon etc
nine
Earlier today in the Politics forum, I posted about a large multi-million dollar telecommunications project I'm involved with. Yesterday the organizers announced the entire project is now on hold indefinitely due in large part to what they anticipate will be lengthy delays for hardware delivery and a highly uncertain business climate for the foreseeable future. pat
There is a concern that the volume of home buying by consumers may decrease, because savings for down payments are often held in brokerage accounts.
