Mike Keith Leaving for UT

It doesn’t really matter if he works for the Jags. He doesn’t have some fan-like loyalty to them. He’s just an employee looking for a better job. He’ll be loyal to whoever is paying his paycheck.

But i want to be petty and deny a man what I assume is a good paying and relatively easy job out of my pointless sports loyalty... is that so wrong?

Hard to imagine but somebody finally supplanted PK as the #1 douchebag in all of local sports media.

Buck and PK need a ladders/chairs match at Wrestlemania to see who can take the title.

@titanruss and @VaTitan, watch this interview with Mike Keith that he did I assume this week.  You’re just going to have to take the L on this one.  He also alluded at the end of the interview that this was in the works for a while.

Volsquest brought this up last September on the board.

Basically, every Vols fan, including myself, knew this was in the works since then. Along with Kessling’s retirement being leaked around the same time to some of the messaging boards

Someone's looking for credit....

Honestly a bit sad about it. I was one of the few who listened to the radio calls. Was always on local radio where I am, and could catch the games that were not televised.

Sure, this is true to an extent.

This is a job where your social and emotional commitment to the team matters. I understand this will come out in the process (and maybe the guy is talented and the right fit and has the type of personality that he will buy in).

I don't know. But treating this type of job--which can be a decades long commitment in a field that is adjacent to the arts--as if it was a lunch pail job is an oversimplification.

We need someone who will be good at what they do and be good in the community and have a clear passion for the team. That is something you need to try to identify and evaluate.

Fans won’t care so long as the new guy is good at his job. And if he’s not, he’s replaceable.

If we could, hell yeah. Lol.

I am not saying passion for the team is the deciding factor--but I do think part of being a good broadcaster means you can generate that and a role like this one does have a lot of public facing responsibilities. I think you want someone who can be good in and out of the booth. I don't think anyone considered for a job like this wouldn't be able to generate passion for the team, but I do think this is a job where personality does matter and you want someone who is a good fit.
