IsntLifeFunny
I don't watch much baseball, but holy shit Ohtani is a cyborg. He became the first player in history with 50 HRs and 50 stolen bases with ten games left to play. He did it by going 6 for 6 with 4 runs scored, 3 HRs, 2 stolen bases, and 10 RBI's. What a freak. He very well could end up there. He needs to win. All the more reason that across all of sports the Angels should be highlighted as a dumpster fire of a shitty franchise. They wasted Trout and Sho on the same team. We are talking a once in a lifetime player and he barely got any buzz. It's outrageous they couldn't win with or promote these guys. Really pisses me off. scine09
My biggest issue with Ohtani, and I know it's not a big thing because when his arm is healthy he pitches, is that he's a DH. Take Aaron Judge, for example. The guy already had a 60 plus HR season, has 53 already this year and plays a terrific outfield. To me if you're going to be the best in the sport you can't do it as a DH when half the time he's not involved in the game at all. scine09
@IsntLifeFunny, I'll follow that post up with this. There's a stat in baseball called WAR, which is Wins Above Replacement. Here are the top five. Ohtani is 5th. You know why he's not higher? He doesn't play defense. I'm actually surprised Judge isn't higher for defense as he's excellent in CF. CaliTitan3518
Ohtani is great and 50/50 is a great achievement but he has a long ways to go to be in the GOAT conversation. Acuna did 41 hr, 73 SBs and hit .337 in 2023 which is just as impressive if not more than 50/50. We are getting guys added to the 30/30 and 40/40 club every season at this point. There has been a massive jump in SBs across the league the last couple of seasons. Ohtanis CS rate is nuts too. The numbers are so impressive you would think teams are just letting him steal. He doubled his career high SBs too. I think this was a feat he knew he could accomplish and the Dodgers pushed for him to get it. They need to cover that contract. rns90

He's the GOAT.

Anyone who actually think Judge is more valuable than Ohtani is on crack. Edited September 20 by IsntLifeFunny
IsntLifeFunny
His average ERA is a little above 3, which is ridiculous. Now, if his arm never gets back to that place then you have a point about him being a DH. But, if you're including and projecting him as a pitcher he's easily the league MVP every single year. Let's see him do it again. Right now he's a pitcher coming off of Tommy John surgery and you have no idea how anyone coming off that surgery will fare coming back. If he's either mediocre or doesn't make it back then he's a DH who isn't adding value as a pitcher. You can't call a DH the best player in the game. And the stats will back up that assertion. He's on course to be back at 100% next year. If he wins a CY Young and a championship then yes he goes down as the GOAT even if that year is his last pitching. It's highly impressive. He has a long ways to go to be considered the GOAT, though. Let's see how he does in his first playoffs this year to start with.
