I hope they sign Higgins and draft a really good #2 WR. Keep Hopkins an extra year to have a well rounded WR groop with NWI and Phillips in the back. Ben/Brian or whoever. Just bring a modern offense to this team.

Vrabel clearly has no plans or ideas other than to promote whoever is left on the coaching staff to play caller.  It's hard to build a team around that.

It's a cycle. Every time we try to transition to a passing offense it happens to coincide with a terrible roster. Tim Kelly and Whisenhunt both lacked a competitive roster to make it work. So naturally the doubters are gonna insist we stick to "our identity" and play more Mularkey/Vrabel ball because we've had moderate success with it. So we'll be stuck with exotic smashmouth forever.

The roster will depend on how Levis turns out. If he's good they can contend just like the Texans are with Stroud.

 

Obviously free agency isn't usually the answer but you can find players and fill holes. They can possibly get a real RT and a center in free agency. Then they'll likely have a high enough draft pick to get either a stud LT or WR.

The best thing about all the cap space is it gives you the flexibility to give contracts that keep future cap space. Instead of signing bonuses they can give out roster bonuses that all count this coming season.

 

Tart is a priority imo and I think if Fulton finishes strong you think about him.

You have to call an offense in accordance with the talent you have.  KC doesn't call plays as if they have Hill in the lineup anymore.  Likewise, we don't have an OL who can hold up nor any deep threats, so our QBs being at the top of the league in Air Yards/attempt is ridiculous

Whisenhunt was a moron for believing Webster could field him a decent roster.

I think if the Bengals let Higgins go, that should tell you a lot about how they view him. I think he’s a good receiver, but I also think it’s easy to put up numbers with Chase swallowing up defenses on the other side. I think folks also over-inflate his talent level because of his Super Bowl performance. 

Id rather spend a first or a second on a WR than pay a #2 like a #1.

I don't disagree, but it comes down to where we end up drafting and if we are in position for one of the top LT's. I'll pay a #2 like a #1 for a few years and still draft a WR in the 2nd if it means we can finally stabilize the left side of the line. 

 

RT & center in FA to go with hopefully a couple re-signs on defense (please keep Tart). Fill in the holes and replace Gibby as the starter at LB. Also think we'll likely sign a mid-tier SS. Use the entire draft on offense.

JRob brought the team up. His FA pickups + draft to solidify the line and getting Murray are the biggest factors. It was fully deserved at the time he ran Mularkey out. He then continued doing well, picking up Tanny  for nothing and drafting AJ and Simmons to open a legitimate SB window.

 

Then he fucked just about every move he made for multiple years, multiple of which are inexcusable, bled the talent pool back down in record fashion and closed the window.

 

I'm not overly surprised people want to revisionist what happened but wrong is simply wrong. Even crediting Mularkey with a playoff win and not caveating it into oblivion by noting how useless and flukey it was is just as dumb as doing that with Mariota.

He was fired, because Robinson convinced Amy that the coaches were holding Mariota back… Not necessarily, because he believed it, but because he had had gained power with a promotion after the first year, and he wanted to hire his own head coach….
