should we force known pot heads to take mental competency tests earlier then? See where this goes? Nevermind the fact these people are democratically elected by the people in their districts/states.

If they have positions where they control the country. Yes. Have them take mental competence tests. Test all of them no matter what age they are every time they run for reelection. Then you don’t have to worry about ageism.

I also believe there should be term limits for congress, then maybe we wouldn’t even have to have this discussion.

There is something seriously wrong with our system when we have senators dying of old age. They shouldn’t be able to serve after retirement age.

It's pathetic that she was clearly not competent anymore and still served until death. Same for Mitch and likely others.

Do we know yet if she's planning on giving up her Senate seat?

This is dumb. plenty of people contribute to society after 65, especially in non physical jobs.

I agree, but I do have an issue with a bunch of 70/80 year olds making decisions that will never effect them or their generation. Most of them are relics

Forcing someone to take a mental acuity test based on age is the definition of ageism...

Exactly.

I just think there needs to be more balance than there is right now. Serving into your 80's shouldn't be the norm, it should be the rare exception. Voters just need to make better decisions imo.

100% but the answer isn't mental acuity tests that will spark wide spread debate on the validity of their outcome. Its get young people to run for office. Term limits would help, I've said for  years I'm in favor of a simple term limit law broken down like this

- Senate: 2 consecutive 6 year terms

- House: 6 consecutive 2 year terms

- Overall: can flip to the other chamber if they can get elected

- overall: can run for additional terms, just not consecutively in the same chamber

It would solve a ton of a problems but it would also force good politicians out of roles, not sure that can be helped though.

VPs don’t do anything. It doesn’t matter unless Biden dies.

Republicans are so weak, a strong VP could be our next president.  And Biden dying or having some other issue is a stronger possibility due to his age.

VP matters more for him.

In my dream world Kamala moves back to the senate, and Blinken to VP

There are already 3 House Reps as candidates running for the seat. Harris is solidly on the Biden re-election ticket.

Eh...Biden's next VP will be the most important in history given Biden's age. It certainly isn't a terrible idea trying to offload Harris as long as it can be done properly.

She’s fine as an office holder, I just think she is a poor campaigner. Harris is on the ticket for demographic purposes and I don’t see them removing her. I can’t see her winning a presidential campaign herself but she doesn’t need to as the VP nominee.

That's fine because it's also just a recognition of the science behind mental impairment as the average human ages.
