Stillman says Byard has requested his release from the Titans

Recommended Posts

Honestly, if they're going to cut Byard, they should just go ahead and have a fire sale.  Hit the reset, tank the season.  Go all in on QB for next year and give Willis the worst season in NFL history to win us his replacement.  They won't do that... but I think they should.

If "impending retirement" is a dumbass way to say he's getting older, I'm banning the next douche who posts one of that guy's tweets.

Titans fans in 2022: "This roster is old, over-paid, and way too injury prone. We have to tear it down completely"!   *Ran cuts most of the old, over-paid, or injury prone players*

I'm mad as fuck. I want Carthon gone

This is the same franchise that locked McNair out of the facilities. This has been their MO for a long time.

This isn't anything even close to that....

Love the guy..:but we do have way too much $$ tied up on the safety position.

That’s really Robinson’s fault, not Byard.

the reality? If they traded Byard and replaced him with a decent, younger FA…there would not be much drop off.

They still did it, this organization does stupid shit. There is a reason they have no championships.

Completely different regimes/decision makers.  But not extending a 30 year old S is hardly a stupid thing.  Giving him a third contract at top of the market prices would be the stupid thing.

I'd rather see them keep the contract as is but he'll be gone next year IMO.

If Tannehill was a goner, he'd already be gone.

I did see a headline (and haven't yet watched the video it linked to) but Rosenthal did say he expected Tannehill to already be traded and that it could still happen.

I imagine the video proves to be all generic baseless speculation, however.

At this point, what team is in the vet QB market that isn't drafting a QB?  Only one I can think of is Atlanta.

Frankly, I side with Byard here. His play hasn't fallen (my opinion) from when he signed the contract so his pay shouldn't. If he was falling off, that's another story.

That's distinct from what's ideal for the cap and for team building, though ... so I see the team perspective as well.

This is fair and it's more than possible they just keep things as is but it's inevitable that next year will be an issue and he'll be one year older then.  His agent, Mulugehta, is pretty aggressive.  Now may be the best time to get Byard a third contract with any value to it.

I agree with both sides too

From Byards perspective, he's coming off a really good year, he's only 29 and lesser players like Jessie Bates just signed a massive contract. His money isn't ridiculous compared to his peers

But for the Titans, they're a a couple years away from competing, they'll have growing pains with a young QB and if Byard wants another big contract it's smart to walk away
