And here we go with the overreaction.... if Carthon isn't calling around to see what it would take he wouldn't be a good GM. if they really like Stroud or Young enough to move up, I say go for it. Jus

Simmons isn't getting traded.

I'm not believing this based on that source but Tannehill is a decent, short term option with complications. If you want a guy and to put something together, you go get him.   There's basica

I'm making a fool out of myself by advocating trading up for a franchise QB if they really like a guy? Lol what?

So weird.

I feel like you’ve qualified this pretty well time and again. “If the titans like a guy,” is key. You don’t seem to be advocating for trading up just for shits and giggles. Of course you make the move if he grades out. I feel a lot more confident if ran makes a move like that year 1, actually. He could easily lay low for a year or two to give himself some extra time. His clock starts immediately if he makes a blockbuster trade to #1. Do these guys not think he knows the risks and has weighed them accordingly?

That said, I think it’s pretty unlikely this is from a legit source. But the response to the hypothetical scenario that you laid out is kind of silly. Of course it’s logical to trade up for a guy if they believe he has a good shot at being an elite qb, regardless of the cost.

One would think a reasonable timeline to really finalize that magnitude of a decision would be mid to late March at the earliest, unless you were really trying to close a deal prior to the competition being able to close a deal.

IMO the Bears would be wise to slow it down in that case. Offers are unlikely to get weaker as time draws on.

Yeah, source is definitely beyond shady. But this is something we discussed a few weeks ago as well as a real option, and I still think it is.

Whether they can outbid other teams to get it done or whether they love one of the QBs enough to do it, I have no clue.

Another thought.  If I am and the buzz is right and Nagy is going to be the new OC maybe he was told they are drafting one of these young QB’s.  Have to be something big to get him to leave Mahomes

One thing that hasn’t been said to consider:

If you believe the Titans had a down year and are on a better trajectory, you have to pull the trigger if you think a qb could be your guy. This will be the best position they’ll be in to get to the top of the draft for the next few years

Hasn't been said?  Where have you been?

I don’t think this is something the Titans could promise. They’ll have a hard time trading up to #1 even if they want to

At this point any contact would just be preliminary information gathering. Ran hasn’t had enough time to decide he wants to do this, I’d assume.

We don’t even have an OC! You’d think someone high profile like EB or Nagy would have input especially with all the collaboration talk

@BudsOilers and @rns90, apparently? But maybe I'm misinterpreting? The discussion is making everyone super angry it seems.

Or maybe @BudsOilers just really hates Matt Nagy and I triggered him by mentioning Nagy?

Neither of us are angry but this is one of your lame diversion of attempts of late to try to deflect getting trampled in these discussions.  It's been well explained as to why a trade from 11 to 1 is far fetched and full of logic holes - the pure cost of that type of move in draft capital, the poor FA options, etc. that would leave the roster full of holes and basically set up the new QB for failure....

Add that none of these QB prospects grade out as generational guys (and there's a good reason Chicago is looking for a sucker to overpay to move up.  This isn't Manning or Luck or Elway sitting there to be had.

As for Nagy, you falsely have crowned him as some QB developer because he just happened to be the QB coach when Mahomes was drafted....Everybody knows Reid is the QB/offensive guru there.  I'm not saying he's a bad coach but the proclamation that he's ideal for this is a big assumption based on what he's done when you exclude Mahomes from the equation.

In this hypothetical world, I would rather the Titans trade our 1st and 2nd in 2023, 1st and 2nd in 2024, AND a pick in 2025 than include Simmons in a deal. Jeff is an impact player in an impact spot. You can make the deal without him.

If this hypothetical QB was Burrow or Mahommes?  I'd give Jeff up in a heartbeat.  He might be an impact players, but he's expendable compared to a legit QB.

Who is against trading up for a QB if the Titans grade one out and want one?

I'm not against trading up for one, but considering they drafted Willis in the 3rd and to finish the season we signed a guy from Detroit's practice squad who came in and within days took the starting position...I have little faith the Titans grades mean much of anything.

Fields has a lot of upside and has been the only stable force and true leader in that organization. No reason to move on from him especially if you can get potentially three 1sts

Yeah, that upside landed them with the #1 overall pick.
