Kind of got the vibe that the ex-wife pressured him to retire last year in the midst of the marriage collapsing. It almost seemed like a FU Giselle move more than anything but he clearly can still play at a good level. He is saying that now. Just wait until training camps start. I kept saying I was going to quit playing rugby, but kept going back, mostly for the old boy games. I finally got concussed but good and that was that. BudsOilers
Oh he could do a 180 but this seemed more TB driven decision as opposed to last year when he clearly was getting pressure to retire. What if SF comes to him and says come play a year for us playing for your home city/favorite team as a kid.

scine09
Or his favorite ex defensive teammate could say come to Nashville for a year and help me win a Super Bowl. BudsOilers, rns90, japan, and 1 other 1 2

It really isn't close. Rodgers had 2 Top 10 defenses during his entire career, and won a SB during one of those seasons. I don't necessarily disagree with what you said, but the difference on the other side of the ball was night and day. Most of Rodgers' playoff losses were due to the defense getting blown out or failing to stop a game-winning drive.

XAEA12
One of the reasons he had such great defenses is because he was the only QB of his caliber to take smaller contracts to improve the team. They also never had or had to pay for top 5 Wars or top end RBs (Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Davante Adams, Aaron Jones etc). Patriots culture would not have existed without Tom Brady leading by example. Manning and Rodgers are Lebron James, Brady is Jordan. Likewise, you're more willing to take a smaller contract when your employer proves that they will take advantage of the additional cap savings and field a championship team. He left when they were no longer doing that. Any QB in Brady's position would have done the same. GB's roster fell apart the same way Tennessee's did, by letting good players they drafted walk and trying to replace them with failed draft picks, and overpaying underperforming players. It's hard to convince your HOF QB that his salary is the one holding back the team's success when that's the way the organization is operating.
