Be honest though, we would have never used Brown like that. I just don't see them being that creative, not Downing anyway.

Regardless... the ability to do so is gone.

The play was stupid anyway, you're in the pistol handing the ball off that deep?    Just fucking QB sneak it and have the RB push the QB forward

I think he beat cancer.  You couldn't beat the Bengals.

Please no more arguing that backup QBs don't matter because if your starter gets hurt, the season is over anyway.

And on top of that, let's stop pretending you can't compete without an elite QB. SF went to a Superbowl with Kaepernick, then Garrapolo, and bow Mr. Irrelevant is killing people. I'd certainly prefer to have Aaron Rodgers in his prime, but if you don't have that QB, there are other ways to build the roster.

San Fran has done a lot of things people around here hate -- traded for and paid a ton of money for a RB, paid their big name WR, etc.

You have to put your quarterback in a position to succeed. You can’t do that by consistently asking them to make 3rd and holy shit all day, every game. Our only hope is for Vrabel to rethink the heavy early down run approach. It’s his one fatal flaw. And it’s not just Henry - we continued to do it with Foreman, too.

He's purdy good.

He's in command and Shannahan does not ask him to do much out of the system. That's the sign of a good coach and offensive scheme, when you can draw up most of the successful plays. All your QB has to do is execute and Purdy is competent and confident enough to do it

I've been thinking about the AJB trade.  I imagine JRob would have been canned anyway.  If the Titans were sitting on the same big contracts plus AJB, where do you find money for Simmons, Tart and others.

The real question is whether or not the DAL/TB winner can provide enough of a roadblock to stop the inevitable SF/PHI NFC Championship game.  It's a lot more open in the AFC.

That's his job to figure out. But a good GM makes it happen. There's not enough talent on this team to have the dilemma of letting go a franchise cornerstone to sign another.

Overall your point is sound but make no mistake, Smith was way better than Purdy today. What we witnessed is what happens when you pair a great play caller with a roster full of weapons and a placeholder at QB.

A better defense will make Purdy beat them. It's a huge question mark on how far SF can advance. Luckily for them the NFC is incredibly weak outside of Philly.

Oh no, I think we are in agreement. I don't think Purdy is the next Tom Brady -- I imagine they could have inserted 50 other QBs and still would have won today.

I think QBs matter and exceptional ones are the easiest way to compete regularly. But my stance has always been that the system and situation has a ton to do with whether or not a QB makes it. And likewise, bad situations can make good QBs look rough.

Makes you feel great about where the Titans currently are with an aging above average QB no OL no OC and a couple of promising rookie weapons.

Are there any young, elite QBs in the NFC right now? It’s wild when you look at the AFC: Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert with fringe guys like Jackson and Lawrence. It sucks we have to play in the AFC right now.
