Hard to turn down $230 million fully guaranteed.

Reminds me of JJ Watt signing with Cards. Politics and desires go straight out the window when the check books come out. I'm surprised Haslam is willing to write that check, but he's getting older and his biz is literally pumping money.

I can only imagine what goes through people’s heads when they stumble across our little corner of the internet.

For that kind of dough or else a number less that that by a number of millions, I think I could tough it out for 5 years in any of the below cities.

https://www.roadsnacks.net/worst-places-to-live-in-america/

After analyzing the biggest cities in the country, here is our list of the worst cities to live in America.

The 10 Worst Places To Live In America For 2021

1. Memphis, TN

2. Jackson, MS

3. Dayton, OH

4. Brownsville, TX

5. Detroit, MI

6. Cleveland, OH

7. Tulsa, OK

8. San Bernardino, CA

9. Shreveport, LA

10. Springfield, MO

You might be surprised to see some of these cities on this list. We understand there’s a lot of good in every place. However, according to data (which doesn’t measure things like beauty, ‘friendly people’, and community involvement), there are far better options in America for making a place home.

Love this video. There is one for a city here in Australia too that reminds me of the Cleveland video, not as catchy as there is no song but still funny:

Some local knowledge that might not hit for people here but @AussieTitanFan08 will get it at least.

Surprised Jackson is on there, and St. Louis is not. Is Chicago in its own category? There is a shooting there every 2.5 hours.

Murder rate per 100,000 people:

Jackson MS 97.2 (2021 = highest in country by most metrics)

Chicago IL 28.6 (2020, went up higher in 2021, dropped 20%+ in 2022, for many years sat 15-18)

And actually, there is stuff worth doing in Chicago, pretty great town.  Like most big cities, impoverished gang filled areas is where overwhelming majority of crime happens. (FWIW gang related deaths still a small-ish % of overall US murder rate too many but under 15% IIRC). I think Chicago was ~ 114 for bottom 10% and 4 for top 10%.  Yeah it's a mess but it's mainly a right wing media chew toy.

For comps Nashville in 2021 which was pretty high year overall in US was ~12-15. Memphis 49, Seattle 5, Atlanta 32, Detroit 48, Boston 5, Minneapolis 22, just to show a range.

The only STATES to break a +15 statewide average were Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Mexico.

Not rocket science.  In general lower socio-economic status (#1 by far) and lack of educational achievement (which highly correlates to SES) tend to be high markers for homicide rates.  Gun ownership % is a mixed bag - does not correlate well on a statewide level vs homicide rates.

Bottom line Jackon VERY much near top of that list if you are concerned about gun violence.

I have never heard that Jackon was a problem area. Surprising. But stats are stats.

I worked a show in Chicago back in 2001. A Taste of Chicago. Lots of art, etc. It was intersting. Then the craziest party I have ever been to in my life. Some guy it seems gives a huge party every month with a theme. That year everyone had to wear white. We left around midnight, but I assume it got crazier. Girls were coming in with just glitter on their boobs. Certainly not in Nashville anymore.
