A great goalie and an even finer human being, Pekka Rinne has played his last NHL game. Taken in the 8th round by the Preds, 256 players including 29 goaltenders were taken in that draft ahead of Pekka, who now is the face of the franchise. He is absolutely the most beloved and revered sports figure in Nashville's history. He played his last game this year for the Preds on the last day of the regular season and shutout the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0. He was a unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and there was a lot of speculation that he may retire so the fans began chanting his name before the game even started. Every save he made resulted in a loud ovation. The fans knew this may be his swan song and the ovation at the end of the game was as emotional as any sporting event I've ever seen. With not a dry eye in the house, the video shows his final lap around the ice. Pekka Rinne was always respectful, humble and classy and the model of what a professional athlete should be. His charity raised millions of dollars for the Monroe Carell Children's hospital in Nashville and his presence here had a positive impact on so many lives. We need more people like Pekka Rinne in this world.
