The NFL will not hold a supplemental draft for the second straight year, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The supplemental draft is available for players whose eligibility situations changed after the January declaration deadline for the regular draft.

Under the collective bargaining agreement, the NFL has the right to decide whether to hold the supplemental draft each year. NFL Network first reported that the supplemental draft was off for 2021.

So essentially they become UDFA?

No, they don’t enter the league this year. They go back to college football. Or maybe they can join one of the minor leagues (whatever is still going to have a season this year).

That really kind of sucks for them... not sure how they can keep them out of the league if we just literally brought in several basketball players and a wrestler for tryouts.

I bet this could be a lawsuit for some players if they wanted to pursue.

Those guys were all draft eligible and went undrafted. No one becomes an undrafted free agent until they go undrafted.

Anyone entering the supplemental draft wasn’t draft eligible or chose not to enter by the deadline. The CBA doesn’t let kids just enter the NFL and choose where they want to go. They have to go through the draft process.

Thanks, makes sense. they should still allow a supplemental draft mid summer. Not sure what the purpose of cancelling it is? Its literally just a form you send in with a round offer for a player that you want, right?

Seems like that would take an interns level of work to oversee.

Thanks to covid, there will be a whole lot more players in this upcoming draft than usual; players who sat out a year or whatever. Should be interesting, though we've already traded some of our picks away (I mean...for Julio, so I'll take it!). This will make the draft a lot deeper, and I expect to see some guys fall to the 3rd or 4th round who would have normally gone in the second.

Covid seems to be planning to stay for a long time.  Delta Variant.  It's the same thing as the Asian flu.  Every year we get a new flu shot.  They just don't make a big deal out of labeling it.  They are going to have to start treating Covid like they did the Asian flu or whatever flu it was that started them to advise people to get an annual flu shot.  Then it's just a normal thing, players with the flu don't play.  They never give each variant a name.  It's just the flu.

35-45,000 people have been dying annually and you never even hear about it.
