Popular Post abenjami
We already took a small step backwards last season, going from the AFC Championship to letting Baltimore roll us in the Wildcard round. I’m not a big fan of what has occurred thus far since the season ended. We lost our offensive coordinator. He was a good coach. IMO, he got the most out of the offensive personnel he was given. Nepotism replaced him. Our TE coach is now our OC. He was previously an OC and he sucked at the job. We’re going to ask him to keep things going with worse personnel. Not the best recipe. Oh yeah, our best TE left too and we haven’t replaced him. Our GM felt it was more important to trade down and pick up an extra 5th round pick rather than drafting a solid rookie TE to fill the gaping hole we have at the position. This team ran 11 personnel more than any other package last season. That means 3 WR on the field. I actually like Reynolds a lot but we’re still only 2 deep at WR with him. We don’t have a solid 3rd WR and we’re completely fucked if AJ or Reynolds go down. But our GM felt it was more important to trade down and pick up an extra 5th round pick rather than drafting one of the many promising rookie WR’s who might be able to step in and contribute this season. I like Firkser. Well, I like him as a TE2 or TE3. He’s not a guy who creates separation on his own or is a real TE1. Back to coordinators real quick, does anyone really think promoting from within a guy who has never called plays is going to change the defensive results? I don’t. It’s still going to be Vrabel’s defense and that defense was atrocious and gave up a shit ton of points last season. Speaking of the defense, it was atrocious last season. The pass rush was non-existent. But hey, so far we landed no pass rushers but drafted a good run stopping ILB to sit on the bench behind the 3 serviceable mediocre ILB’s we already have. Bud Dupree better ball out like Javon Kearse or it will be more of the same. I loved the Caleb Farley pick. But it’s a huge problem in two ways. First off, even if he is a stud from day one, that’s not fixing a whole lot. Second, if he’s not able to play due to injury and/or busts, well it’s not an improvement from last season. The Molden pick isn’t bad either but it doesn’t matter how good your secondary Is if the QB has all day to throw. I can’t wait to see how excited Farley, Molden, and Jenkins are to play in a scheme that requires them to play 15 yards off. BTW, when you draft a guy in round 2 and then the next year spend a 1 and 4 to draft the same position, that speaks loads of confidence about the pick (i.e. Fulton). We lost Lewan last season for most of the year and our patchwork OL still held up good enough for Henry to rush for 2,000 yards, good enough for Tannehill to put up pretty solid numbers, and good enough for our offense to be in the upper tier of scoring offenses. But hey, let’s use a second round pick to solidify something that wasn’t a huge weakness. I’ve lost a ton of respect for the JRob/Vrabel combination this offseason. It appears they are more focused on looking cool on TV and dipping as much as possible. I fully expect a bunch of you homers to try and rip me for this and I look forward to bumping this post around week 12. Starkiller
Just having a competent defense should be a big improvement out there, even if the offense takes a small step back. Supdawg

Because we have an actual secondary with depth as well as Autry and Dupree being massive upgrades from what we put on the field last year. I think we’ll have a good defense this year. Offense on the other hand, well let’s hope we trade for a WR or at least pickup Crowder.

If he balls out it will change the defense. Big question mark though with the injury and coming to a new team led by retards though. Autry is a role player at best. Titans279
I tend to think we'll take another step backwards this year abenjami, and Mythos27
GLinks
They may still have Julio Jones plans to make AJ Brown’s dreams come true. They may think Nick Ikhine-Westbrook may be ready for WR3. They won’t play 15 yards off much if they want to play press man as much as they say, which is what they drafted for. freakingeek
IsntLifeFunny
I can see us taking a step back. It’ll be a tougher schedule and we won a bunch of close games last year. On the other hand just getting Lewan back is huge. By the end of the year Tannehill was getting hit if he didn’t release the ball within 2 seconds. The rookie tackle is a better pass blocker than Kelly, well just overall a better tackle. Downing didn’t have much to work with in Oakland. I don’t see that as a nepotism hire. It’s more about system continuity. I actually think he was a solid hire that knows the system well. As for Bowen...well at least we brought in Shwartz. I think we are still narrow favorites to win the division. If the defense takes a large step forward and the offense clicks on the back half I still consider us a dangerous team come playoff time. It will be up to Vrabel to stop being a pansy with the conservative play calling if we make it that far.

He’s like a better more polished version of Jason Jones. He’s had 20 sacks in the past 3 seasons as mainly a 3 tech. Those are Casey lite type numbers. We have nothing to trade for him unless you are talking about mortgaging the entire future of draft picks. NIW is laughable as well. If they thought so highly of him where the fuck was he in the playoffs last year?
IsntLifeFunny
Also, sorry for another post, I really do believe the addition of Shwartz will pay dividends on 3rd down and red zone defense. We actually weren’t bad at all getting teams to 3rd and long or causing turnovers the first two downs. We just had an historically awful 3rd down defense. He had 7.5 sacks 3 years ago. He’s a good player and is a good interior rusher. A front four of Landry, Simmons, Autry, Dupree is legit if everyone is healthy and clicking. Our depth is definitely lacking.
