scine09
He also had Derek Carr coming off the injury from the year before and as mentioned the back injury. I think that made a big difference in how that offense performed.
IrishTitansFan
At the end of the day Downing will go as far as the QB brings him, Tannehill is a way better QB than Carr CreepingDeath
OzTitan
Is this supposed to be an indictment on the OC or the QB??? Aramis, and big2033
Justafan
The Titans have better talent on offense than the Raiders had and I like their current scheme far more. I expect Downing will be fine. Still, it would be naïve to not have concerns that the drop off from Smith to Downing, especially with the loss of Davis and Jonnu, will set the team back. titanruss, NashvilleNinja, and titanskick8851 2
Popular Post oldschool
The drop off isn't at the OC position, it's at the skill positions. None of it matters if the Titans still plan to run Henry on 1st and 2nd down and expect Tannehill to bail them out on 3rd down. tgo
This should be encouraging to people who want to pass more on 1st down. As I said before, Downing’s propensity is more toward the pass game, but Vrabel will dictate things on offense still I’m sure. And after coaching TE’s the last few years in run heavy zone schemes and seeing Henry perform, I’m sure Downing has more appreciation for the run game these days. IowaOiler
Downing will fall in line with meathead, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten the title. We will still run a shit ton on 1st down, the lack of a threat opposite AJ will decrease his production, and the lack of a true threat at TE will hurt our 3rd down chances. The offense will take a major step back, and it will have nothing to do with RT. I would actually be fairly surprised if RT doesn't miss time this year because he's going to spend a lot of time waiting for routes to develop on the 3rd and longs that Vrabel will get us into. Thrill
Ive said this before but Marshawn Lynch was a horrible running back that year. No one respected their run game. Amare Cooper lead the league in drops by a wide margin and wanted out of Oakland. So the offense was centered around an old Crabtree, a TE that couldn’t block, a running back that couldn’t run, and a WR that couldn’t catch. All of this was facilitated by a QB coming off a broken leg and dealing with back problems. That’s putrid regardless of their O-line quality. freakingeek

VaTitan
Maybe we should bring in a Sr. Advisor for him too? I wonder what Dowell Loggains or Norm Chow are up to these days? IowaOiler, freakingeek, and Btowner 1
StephenIsLegend
I don't really come away thinking any differently about him. I'm reserving judgement until I actually see the product on the field. The main difference being that Tannehill >>>>>>>>> Carr. BudsOilers
I like Warren Sharp a lot but he's dramatically overselling the talent on that 2017 Raiders team. I don't think it has a ton of relevance to the current Titans situation. Thrill, Aramis, and OILERMAN
Stan
People are overestimating how big of a loss we’ve had on offense it will take a step back. The defense will only go up, it’s law of averages. Todd downing has always sucked abs all my raider friends out west have said that we’re going to hate his play calling and that we’re gonna miss smith.
