wiscotitansfan
I'm not gonna lie. I LOVED that movie. It had enough plot to actually tell enough of a story but it knew exactly what it was going for. I knew it was going to be good when the opening credits basically turn into a March Madness type bracket with Godzilla and Kong matching up in the championship. I honestly didn’t watch the last Godzilla or Kong movies. I assume those are basically unnecessary going in?
wiscotitansfan
It's pretty quick but just set such a good tone to not take it too seriously

I'm sure a lot of the plot is pushed along from Godzilla: King of the Monsters the most but ultimately I don't think details of the humans involved in previous movies are actually that necessary
OilerTitanHybrid
Does this movie confirm that Silverback Gorilla > Grizzly Bear then? Possible! Edited April 2, 2021 by OilerTitanHybrid Starkiller, and OILERMAN

Number9
I'll surely watch the movie and enjoy it if I get the chance. The F-A-C-T is Godzilla is a badass giant Dino with razor sharp teeth and he can blow 500,000c fire out of his mouth. King Kong is a giant gorilla/monkey armed with a bad ass right hook and is susceptible to getting distracted by a piece of ass. No Contest. Going in you plan on seeing somebody getting F'd (up). Would be quite the twist though to suddenly roll into some French New Wace Cinema Auteur where after seeing a red ballon drift by they sit down and the rest of the movie is just the two of them having dinner, smoking, discussing how meaningless it all is while they casually swat tanks and choppers from time to time. LOL at the French New Wave mention. Actually it’s not all that bad, Truffaut is pretty interesting and Chabrol manages to combine class critique and violence into almost all his movies. chef

But the movie was still really good. There are totally massive spoilers. Maybe not by any stretch of the imagination but major spoilers nonetheless. CreepingDeath
I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. I fucking LOVED how they didn't play up the dumb monkey like he was an equal to Godzilla. I'm fine with the whole Kong dropping his weapon and the lizard marching off. The silliness of all the other shit only helps make the really stupid shit bearable. I may check out Skull Island now since I know how this fight turns out. wiscotitansfan, and Number9
Number9
I went today. IMAX. The movie was G-R-E-A-T!! No shit. I saw the one below too. A long time ago. It was Awesome!
Bink
Haven't watched it yet, but it looks pretty fun if not pretty predictable. I don't necessarily need these movies to "surprise" me, and it seems like this one should just deliver some good ole' fashioned action. Probably gonna try to watch this weekend and throw my predictions below to see if it does catch me off guard. Spoilers for my thoughts, because some people think even guesses are spoilers. Spoiler So I have two pieces of crucial information about this movie: the director says there is a definitive winner, and that there is a Mechagodzilla Funco pop. My prediction is that this movie follows a pretty familiar Batman vs Superman arc where they are misunderstood enemies and come together at the end to fight Mechagodzilla, the big bad. Based on the definitive winner comment, I'd say there are multiple fights--each looking good--but ultimately one prevails--I'd guess Godzilla is stronger than Kong, but Kong--the more human one is convinced to team up with his rival. I had my Louis Maille reference in there as well, at least his later American years. Besides Andre always loved his Vanya on 42nd. And yet, I will probably watch CGI monsters smash stuff too. Much fun, moreso with 10 year old twin boys. I think important in life to maintain that balance in high and low brow, and not go too far down either hole, lest you become a-hole.
