Rapoport - Jonnu Smith could potentially be franchise tagged

Recommended Posts

In this report on Rudolph Rapoport mentioned that Jonnu Smith could potentially be tagged think this might be the first time one of the credible NFL reporters has actually put tagging Smith as on option on the record, until now it has more just been twitter chatter.

Only so many TE in the NFL athletic enough to do this

I’d prefer keeping Corey to Jonnu (if it came to that), but they definitely need to keep at least one of them.

Hopefully they can get enough room to tag Jonnu.   He's extremely undervalued by a lot of fans and underutilized by the team.

I too would be excited about the offense if we kept Jonnu and drafted Devontae Smith.

Devontae Smith would add a deep threat. He is very quick, and fast. He has damn good hands and runs very good routes. I think he is going to walk away as the AJ Brown from this years draft class of WR’s. He also is a very disciplined player and if the ball isn’t coming his way he doesn’t just dog it. He is good in the run blocking department also and is a team player not a diva me me me kind of WR

His game and honesty as well as his size remind me of Marvin Harrison’s. Plus he is a quiet guy, who comes across like a well mannered & mature young man who lets his game do the taking for him.

Smith is a WR who last year played behind Ruggs and Jeudy and still hauled in something like 14 TD and 1256 yards as the #3 target in an offense with Jeudy, Ruggs and also Waddle who was the 4th option.

This year with Mac Jones as his quarterback he was the primary WR and what did he do? Fucking killed it with 117 catches for 1856 yards and 23 touchdowns and was named AP player of the year AND Heisman which I think would make him the only receiver since Desmond Howard to win the heisman and if I am not mistaken the only non QB/RB to win it since 2000. I haven’t checked that to make sure but I think that is accurate.

That’s just absolutely fucking insane.

And after typing all that out and seeing those numbers and awards... 180 catches for 3,099 yards and 37 touchdowns in the last two years with AP player of the year and a Heisman trophy there actually is absolutely no way he drops to pick #22. If he runs a 4.3 or 4.4 he actually may go in the 5-8 range and would probably be the consensus #1 WR over Chase

Just to add to this drooling I am doing over Devonta Smith he actually had 3,965 yards on 235 catches and 46 touchdowns in 4 seasons at Bama in which he was the starter in only one year which was his senior season. His freshman year he had little play time, and you also have to put in perspective that he was the teams #1 WR in only his senior year. All other years he was the #3 or #4 target. That goes to show how stacked Bama is at WR

They are legitimately “WR-U”

I personally didn’t realize how impressive his career at Bama was until I looked at his production over the course of his collegiate career, and to do it as a starter for only 1 season is fucking mind boggling

Devontae Smith is going top 15, likely top 10 - some have him going #4 to Miami. He’s not going to be a titan.
