He probably assumed the safety would head towards AJ Brown's side... but he didn't. Missed chance by Tannehill. Ball probably should've gone to Brown. Happens. But I haven't watched it since the game. On to the draft. Yes... tannehill should have looked left cause no doubt that safety knew AJ was one on one and then come back to raymond with more room in the middle of the field. On to the draft sounds good

I was talking about 1 read QB's and killing one but not the other. Yeah. I’m saying the criticisms over years of Mariota are completely different than a single play that Tannehill threw a pick on

This is the bigger picture, failure of the coaching staff. The Raymond play was one such coaching failure of many during the game. TitanTez
IsntLifeFunny
My favorite part of the game was Dzunabar getting a ton of snaps and the defense holding them to 20 points. So much for not being able to change up the defense in the playoffs. Also, Brown was wide open on that pass. It was ridiculous for Tannehill to not see it pre-snap or for Raymond to be the first read. japan

The type of throw required to Raymond is an easier completion (when the WR doesn't fall down obviously). The throw to Brown would have been a deep ball against the sideline that needed to be laid down in the right spot. It's a throw we've seen RT make several times this season to perfection but the throw to Raymond was a more high percentage one. Raymond on a route he never runs versus Marcus Peters over a go route with AJ Brown with a step against not Marcus Peters. Yeah.

OS and others think nothing wrong when RT makes a one read but kill Marcus for the same thing. It's so hypocritical, it's insane. Mariota had 0 1000 yd receivers while he was here. Tannehill had 2 and easily 3 if cd doesnt meltdown at end of the season. Shut up with this Mariota shit. We were a top 5 offense this season mariota couldnt get us anywhere close to that. BudsOilers
Clearly the primary read was the route that Raymond ran......Also the Ravens were playing man - Peters was on Raymond the whole time. oldschool
Supdawg
This is why we should not employ a 170 pound WR who can fall down in a slight breeze. abenjami

When I was rewatching the play my first thought was AJB wasnt suppose to be running that route. I have no clue what the play was suppose to be but it just didn't look like a normal Arthur Smith route combos. We usually see a lot of hi lo route combos when working the middle of the field. This is the case for majority of NFL offenses. Jonnu and Raymond were on a wheel route combo. Typically you see a dig or a crosser from the left side to occupy the LBs or to be the 2nd look/outlet if the DBs cover the wheel routes and the LBs drop deep. Its also possible he was suppose to be running a post to occupy the deep safety. Edited January 13, 2021 by CaliTitan3518

Pre snap single high safety, Peters bails during cadence so good indicator its a cover 3. Probably takes away the Jonnu wheel route so primary read is Raymond. Since its a zone Raymond is looking to find the soft spot between the LBs and Safety. Peters just read it all the way through and sat on the route. Sure its easy to say Tannehill should have seen that but Peters isn't the read when the ball is going to Raymond. Peters still covered Raymond in man but it was a huge cushion. I agree that he read the play perfectly and also was savvy in using his left arm to "help" Raymond fall. I do think you could say he cut off Raymond but with him facing the ball, I can see why the ref swallowed the whistle there.... I'd also say if Brown was the primary on the play, Tannehill undoubtedly would have looked there first and thrown it to him.
